2 questions about this frameset

if you can tell, which you may not be able to. i ask because the 2010 version of the Felt site is down. Plan is to do a build with Red, but since this is my first buildup, it's a learning process.

(1) can you tell if i would need a braze-on or clamp front der for this? (it looks braze-on to me, but RAcycles.com says a clamp is required. they're not Felt.)

(2) as far as i know, the fork and steerer are carbon. if it's a carbon steerer, what type of top cap do i need? or can it be any top cap, but i need a specific type of expander plug?

thanks brolys.

Beautiful.

Looks like a braze-on provision to me.

I am not even going to attempt a guess at #2.

caloso 09-03-10 01:28 PM

Braze-on. You can see it: it's the little gray thingie on the ST below the bottle cage bolt. Re the steerer: if it's carbon, you'll probably need an expansion plug. I would be surprised if one is not supplied with it.

my unbelievably awesome fiancee is getting me this frameset as an engagement present. :)

and, yes, the braze-on thing is the same as my other Felt. i was just confused by the RA Cycles site that said that a clamp was required.
if you look at the other 2010 ARs, they all have braze-on FDs including the AR3 which has a Red FD. since this frame has a version that can accommodate Di2, i thought things might be different.

16 years ago my wife bought me a nice poker table an an engagement present. She had a brass plate with a nice inscription installed on the side where I would normally sit. All my friends said she was the best wife ever (the truth). Sadly that table now sits in the garage gathering dust (no time for late night poker anymore). Don't let that frame go to waste. Don't sell it when it's old. If you destroy it, don't throw it away. When you've been married awhile it'll be nice to look at it and bring back good memories.

i'll remember this.
when i gave her the ring i told her not to worry about getting me anything. of course she couldn't let that go, so she was agonizing over getting me a watch or cufflinks or whatever. thing is, i'm not into jewelry, so it would be something i just left in a drawer or wore out of obligation (a wedding ring, obviously, is a different story). Anyway, we got to talking about how much i ride my bike - 3000 miles this year so far. so i suggested that she put whatever she was going to spend on me towards our wedding savings and i'd just put that much towards this bike i was considering buying. then she bought me the frame, out of nowhere. she's nuts but she's awesome.

i'm sure that'll be a different type of nuts
i was referring to how crazy it is that she'd buy me this particular gift. it's too big, but i can't stop her.

Get used to it. Go with the flow. Learn selective hearing. HTFU.

I think the majority of BF are just wishing that their SO would be this awesome :D

Now you need to get some custom made red jersey to match the frame.

That's awesome, congratulations!

Now what size is this F3 you'll no longer be needing? :D

Bianchigirll 09-03-10 04:14 PM

are you building this yourself? if you can't tell you need a braze on FD from that pic perhaps you should have your shop build it

Yes I know what Im looking at. Two sites said clamp needed. Just double checking.

And the F3 is a 58, but I don't think it's going anywhere. I love that bike.
The masi, on the other hand, I am selling probably to my little brother.
