Pedal Help
Yes really. I started on Looks and then the Shimano 7401 (Look compatible) for more than a decade now - the Shimanos I mean. I have the same 2 pedals and they have 10's of thousand miles each and have survive crashes as well. These pedals may go on for another couple years, I am thinking of getting into a new pedal system as it is getting harder to find the black Look cleats and of course I have to do a bit bike schwag-i-nism as well. The red Look deltas are too loose for me. I have tried black Welgos and even went for six months went with SPD SL cleats and they do fit the somewhat but they are NOT the same. Also the "new" production runs of Look Deltas have this white material that I feel make them a bit loose still.
I sort of like the principle of the X speed play and it seems that trackies like them a lot. But what about when you have to make a quick errand and you have to use sneakers instead, the lollipop shape always bugged me as well.
Shimano that extra material on the cleat does not make sense and I roll with a 41 or 42 and the cleat just feels to oversized but I can get past that. I also looked at the Ritchey system and I liked the longish pedals.
Keo's, there is now a max version and what makes it special over the regular Keo.
And as you know the 7401 were top of the line then. So how is the Dura Ace version of the SPD SL better than the more affordable Ultegras.
So I am asking those who have used 7401 or the older Looks and ride them tight with no float, which of the pedal systems I've ask, SPD-SL, Look Keo and Look Keo max, Ritchey and the Speedplay X are comparable.
BTW the 7401 are considered bike anchors in this era but they are durable.

That is cool!. Thank you. I did not read the thread because I thought that was another Speedplay line. That will alos be nice if I have tio have "play". How hard is it to target the speedplay hole in the cleat?

I use 7401's and am very happy with them. I actually have a set of look Keo 2's I got from PBK that I plan to change to eventually, but I am so pleased with the 7401's (and/or so f'n lazy) that I probably will not actually switch for another year or two....well maybe this winter if we get snowed in and I get supremely bored.
