1" Threadless Fork
So here is the issue:
I recently purchased a brand new GIOS Compact Pro, and then had a custom fork made for the bike, with a threadless 1" steerer. So far - so good.
However - I cannot find for the life of me any 1" threadless stems. I would rather not use a shim, if only for the weight and the fact it is one more part to add to this connection between steerer and handlebars.
Does anyone know where I can get a carbon 1" (note - since I have not purchased the handlebars yet, I am not concerned with the 26 or 31 mm size, so either will work).
Thanks,
VT Biker

google 1" threadless stem.
there are some 1" stems around, but veeeery few, if any carbon 1" stems. it's just not something that's sought after, so theres no market for them.
use a shim, and get whatever stem you want, or get a 1" aluminum stem. if you shim it right, the effect of an extra piece between stem and steer tube will be non existent, and either way, you're going to have to suck it up and take the "weight" hit.

Why carbon? The weight savings is mostly imaginary. Some of them are even heavier than alloy. Carbon stems exist mostly to make money off of people who want carbon everything, and not because they're actually any better.

...weight of the shim should be a non-issue in your situation.
...this has some substance to it and I wouldn't use a shim either.
If you get the frame right, plenty of 1" forks and stems are available, most alu-carbon or all steel, although I'm curious about your choice of carbon for a 1" steerer. Something is wrong here in your decision making process.
