Road Cycling ďIt is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.Ē -- Ernest Hemingway

I know wheels are kind of a personal choice, so what are your favorite wheels and why?

My favorite, because they are the best. Light, strong, perfect. Mavic Ksyrium SL's. Doesn't get any better in my opinion.

Really depends on what you are suing them for. Given that I donít race anymore my favorites are now just a set of 32 hole open pros laced to my Dura Ace hubs. Theyíre obviously not the fastest thing out there, but I havenít had to turn a spoke nipple for the last couple of thousand miles and they spin straigt as an arrow. Itís also nice to be able to turn down a dirt road without worrying about whatís going to happen to your wheels.

Plus, if I had some fancy aero wheels I feel like I would have to worry about being in better shape and going faster when I rode them. Maybe I worry too much about what other people think, but I just donít want to find myself being the slowest guy on the ride when Iím the one with the fanciest set up. The 32 hole rims let people know I don't have any illussions about why I'm out there--just for the love of being on the bike.

36 hole ultegra hubs with either mavic open pro or velocity aerohead....not the fastest, but not terribly expensive and very low maintence.

Why hassle with your wheels for an extra .5% efficiency?
