Which wheelset would you recommend me to go with:

Reynolds DV46 C UL wheels

vs

Reynolds Assault clincher wheels?

Have you tried both? Heard any negative comments on one particular wheelset? I was planning to Buy the Assault wheelset but just came accross the DV46 C UL and was wondering if I should switch to this one instead?

I think the Assaults use the old DV46 mold.

Those are two very different price points, by about $1000.
If its as easy for you to just say, hey, I'll think I'll get the DV46 instead, then go for those as they are better. $1000 better? well....

Just saw the ebay links after making this post. Why would anyone spend that money on the Assaults, when they can be bought new from a dealer (giving full warranty ability) for almost the same price (and the auction isn't over yet).

Well they are much lighter, and iirc use a higher mod carbon layup.

True, and KT hubs instead of DT Swiss and different DT Swiss spokes. I ride (and love) the DV46CKT, which is really an Assault wheel without the Assault stickers. Bonktown had then for under $1,100 and is an authorized dealer. They were eligible for the RAP, which I jumped on. The DV46 UL uses a different layup, hence the lower weight. Is the weight difference worth over $1,200 retail? Only if you think so and have the extra cash.

the wheels themselves are the same according to the Reynolds rep i spoke too. the spokes and the hubs are the difference. that being said, my local shop says that they see a lot of issues with both the hubs and the spokes (or lack of ability to stay true) in the assaults.

I say buy the assaults and spend some money on good spokes and hubs..

I don't know if it's still the same, but it used to be that all the 'numbered' wheels (DV46, MV32, DV3K) are manufactured right here in salt lake. While all of the 'worded' wheels (Assault, Attack, Solitude, Strike) are manufactured in Asia.

get the lightest wheels you can afford...that's the whole point of carbon wheels...light = fast.

That's certainly part of the reason. But the ride damping is a major factor for me. I've heard carbon wheels described as riding on carpet. That has been my experience. Lightness and comfort. What's not to like?

I have the DV46 UL and love them... buy what you can afford.

The dv 46's have better spokes and hubs, plus a different carbon for the rim (same mold tho)

yes, buy what you can afford, but also sell all that you have to afford them. beg what you can from everyone you know. dig through your couch, break whatever piggy bank you have...do whatever you have to!

I got the assaults as my racing wheels (with the RAP). Like them so much that they are now the only wheels I use for racing/training...and since I have the RAP i really don't care what happens to them. Hit pot holes in road races and crits, gravel sections, rain...the only thing bad that happened was hitting a pot hole on a very fast descent which ejected both bottles from tacx taos put the front wheel out of true, but this was easily fixed.

That being said, if I could do it over I would have gotten the tubulars and not the clinchers from a weight standpoint and if they were tubulars i'd probably only use them to race. And thats fine as the wheels i should be using every day are also quite nice.
