A victory for us roadies in North Florida.....

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

He gets credit for time served. With that and how they credit days, he's going to be out before Christmas. Not sure that's exactly justice.

At least he now has a felony conviction on his record.

We were on that ride. Finished about 10 minutes behind the group after we flatted. Only time I can recall being grateful for a flat.

Yeah, I had heard he was going to plea bargain and plead guilty.

..now maybe I can get my damn helmet back from the police evidence room!

How is stabbing someone 6 times NOT considered attempted murder? Only 1 year in jail? WTF? I guess he felt intimidated by the gang of cyclists and "feared for his life," making his use of a knife in a fist fight somehow more justifiable. Glad to see nobody died at least.

Not sure if that's Kendall's helmet in the pic or not, but they taped off an area around where it happened, and several people had stuff inside the tape they couldn't get.

Ya gotta read the other three links at the bottom.

The report says he told officers that after he was punched in the face, "I got my pocket knife and went to town."
Just beware, you might think you are in a shoving match, but the other guy might think its a knife/gun/fight to the death. Kinda hard to keep your emotions and temper in control all the time, I guess, for all three involved.

One day (on Atlantic and 9A) I saw a guy throw a full cup into a woman's car window. I guess she had cut him off or something. She slammed on her brakes and got out and punched him in the face while he was still in his car. We crazy up here.

To echo some previous sentiments, not much of a victory for roadies or society at large.

He got off light.

^this. I put my helmet on the ground while we were getting help for the victims, and they ended up taking everything inside the crime scene tape away.

Fortunately John has recovered well, and is racing again. Not so fortunately, he has a hernia that will require eventual repair surgery.

What is it about Florida? Perfect biking weather most of the year, and from I what you see in the news anyway, they HATE bicyclists more than just about anywhere else in the U.S. I don't get it.

I've lived in West Virginia, Virginia, Florida.

In my experience, dislike for Cyclists in North Florida is about on a par with what it was in Virginia, and less than in West Virginia.

It's really not that bad, you have a certain percentage of the population that is stupid, uneducated, and generally pissed off at the world. Every few rides you run into one of them, but its usually no more than a stupid remark.

In my experience those types exist everywhere.

That percentage seems to be a huge amount nowadays.

With more population u have more chances to find these wackos. The % of cucu people is not that high but as the population grows the wackos number grows also so u have more chances to find one that will snap big time.

And with the internet you have more opportunity to hear about them.

Glad the guy received some punishment and that nobody was killed.

getting hit by a door mirror is a traffic incident and is totally separate from two men later getting into a fight over it. the way i see it when its a guy in another guy's face whoever is uncivilized enough to escalate it by taking a swing should have no qualms about the end result.
