White saddles. How clean is yours?

I just put a white saddle on, replacing a black one. How long before it gets as nasty as my white bar tape?

MajorMantra 09-25-10 05:14 PM

In my experience they'll stay reasonably but not completely white. Unlike bartape a saddle isn't particularly absorbent and it doesn't come into contact with your grubby hands/mitts.

ahsposo 09-25-10 05:20 PM

I'm thinking any color is as soon as your sweaty pale arse is on it for a short while - it's gonna be pretty nasty.

But I'm just guessing.

merlin55 09-25-10 05:37 PM

depends the fake leather "lorica" saddles stay pretty white, the real leather is more absorbent of sweat and grime

I have a white saddle on my new bike. I have about 600 miles on it since I bought it just over a month ago. Saddle still looks bright and shiny white! Now the white bar tape on the other hand....

tjspahr 09-25-10 07:22 PM

My experience seems to be close to the other posters. They really don't get that dirty. And if you want, you can always use saddle soap and white shoe polish to clean/touch up.

CyciumX 09-25-10 07:26 PM

The white Ponza saddle that came with my Caad9 actually started coming off onto my shorts and when I went to clean it the whiteness started gumming up into a thin paste... gave that junk away for free on CL.

The replacement saddle from Kestrel (Don't know the OEM mfg.) has stayed white for many, many miles.

I have two white Fizik Ariones. They are both whitey white after lots of use. The white finish seems to have just the right level of friction for moving around on the saddle.

Good to hear.
Got a White Aliante in mind for my white SS.
:D

i have a white saddle..well now its a lil off white from all the riding Lol

midgetmaestro 09-25-10 09:36 PM

Mostly white with exception to the areas that have rubbed away to a polished white/grey.

Henry III 09-25-10 09:54 PM

I've got a white Cardiff Cambria leather saddle and it's pretty unwhite now. It's pretty uncomfy compared to some old crusty unknown leather saddle or my Brooks Professional I have. If I look at it the wrong way it gets dingier.

Slow_Fred 09-25-10 10:00 PM

My San Marco Ponza white saddle that came stock on my bike has stayed white since using it for about 5 months, save for a blemish here or there. The white bar tape got dirty after a week though, lol.

Wylde06 09-26-10 02:47 PM

My Arione is still very white after 2000 miles. Ive only cleaned it once, and even then it didnt need it.

I love having plants in the audience. Here it is when it was first assembled months ago. I put the saddle on for the pic and then put my old comfy saddle on for riding. Now the comfy is painfully uncomfy.

What color are your handlebars?

cappuccino911 09-26-10 03:16 PM

i have the stock giant white seat on my rapid, it still looks good and cleans up fine though I think the closest i've come to cleaning it is wiping it off with a towel after it got rained on!

You are worth your weight in gold as the king of shill. I forgive all your past transgressions.

mine is a nice off blue from riding in the rain while wearing blue jeans on my fixed gear..
on my road bike it is still white.

wrr1020 09-26-10 04:51 PM

Mine actually looks really clean still after over 1000k miles. It's a Selle Italia SLK.

saratoga 09-26-10 05:21 PM

It's blue from the shorts in the high contact areas. Doesn't get that nasty gray like white bar tape however.

Pardon my going off topic, but that's a beautiful frame.

Ok, carry on.

Flatballer 09-26-10 06:38 PM

My Toupe is still pretty white after at least 5k miles. The red stripe where my legs rub has made some of the white a little pink.

Unfortunately the saddle isn't gonna last much longer. It's bent so much that my legs are rubbing the top of my seatpost, the part that should be under the saddle...
