Is there a best time for a post-ride leg massage?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is there a best time for a post-ride leg massage?

What I've been doing lately is massaging my legs whenever they feel sore. (Generally if I ride very hard in the morning, I might massage that evening ... or the next evening.) Using a rolling pin, a Happy massager, and also hands.

Anyway, it seems to be working fairly well. But is there a best time for a massage; say, X hours after a ride?
