ride through the winter. I'm in putnam county NY and most of our winter days are cold but dry. The wet slushy days only last 3 days before the roads dry up again. 80% of the winter is rideable with the exception of heavy snow days. The salt does less than you think it does, I got a buddy who has been riding for 5 winters straight and his bike is fine. You just should wash and dry your bike if it get's any wet or slush on it after a ride.

Winter is the best riding here.
Typhoon season is over, the humidity is gone and it doesn't usually go over 30C for the daytime high. It's pretty much sunny and 20~25C for the next 4 months.

pcad, you should offer courses on the following topic at HTFU
HTFU 101: ride in the rain
HTFU 102: ride in the cold
HTFU 103: ride in humidity
HTFU 104: ride in a rainy, cold day.
I have taken the first three courses and will gladly take an F for HTFU 104, though with newer winter booties & fenders, i'm hoping to get a C in that class.

I get on my winter gear and enjoy riding. No, I won't post a picture of me in tights like some of these cads on here. Sheesh!

I ride more in the winter. The weather here is better in the winter because it isn't so damned hot. It was a 113 degrees on Monday. The only down side to winter is that it gets dark earlier so no riding after work without lights.

Startling news just off the presses. Bikes function in the winter months also. If it's that bad where you live there's always off road riding.

When you've had cycling taken from you by some injury or illness and you get it back, you realize that cycling is a gift. That riding on 15ºF mornings through beautiful winter landscapes with nobody else around is one of the sublime pleasures of road cycling. That having your neighbors think you are insane is a profound advantage.

I can't stand exercising for the sake of exercise. Gym workouts are boring. I ride 1. because it's fun and 2. because it's useful. So if it's too cold or wet or windy outside to take a ride for fun, I'll do as many errands as I can by bike. Most errands are four miles or shorter. I get my exercise this way, have a bit of fun, save money, and save the planet. I also save time! How, you ask? Yes, cycling an errand takes longer than driving it, but cycling takes less time than driving plus exercise, if I did them separately.

Truth, this man speaks it. I ski at least 4 times a week (XC) and race about once a week. During the ski season I'm convinced that cycling is my off season activity. I'll ride to work all year, and hit the rollers in the fall and spring.
XC skiing is a family thing for us:

actually, i ride in humidity when i can't wiggle out of it
only when there's no wind.

Go running. Its alot easier to stay warm running because you don't have all the extra wind from cycling making you even colder.
