Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best Road Shoe

I am looking at getting new road shoes, I currently have 10 year Sidi's which have been fine, though I have been getting some foot burn. I am a size 8 E so I was thinking Sidi 6.6 Carbon Mega.
https://www.sidi.com.au/mega-shoes/ge...rbon-mega.html

Any other brands/models to consider?

Can't get any better shoes than that, IMHO. I wear Sidi Mega's too. Love 'em.

Buy 'em. Ride 'em.

Check out the Sidi Ergo 2's as well. I just bought a new pair of those and that center strap thingy (technical term) is awesome for fine tuning the fit while riding.

I like my old Sidi Lightnings a lot, but I like my Lake CX330C's more. They fit me as well as any shoe I've ever had, and I'm not talking about just cycling shoes. Very comfortable.

Lake also have similar shoes with heat-moldable soles. When I wear mine out, I think I'll try them. Gonna be a while, though.

if you're looking for other considerations, specialized makes an excellent line of shoes.

I picked up the Genius 6.6 Carbon Lite Mega model and love them. They're on clearance for the 2010 model in a lot of places too for under $300. List is around $450 I think.

The only issue I have with Lake is no heel pad. I was sold on these until I found out that it's just a carbon nub and there's no way to replace it if it wears. I love the Boa system.

Thank you, the ability to replace the heel pad is important

The best shoes for you are the ones that fit your feet. Try on as many different shoes as you can.

I think a replaceable heel pad would be great, but noticed that few companies have them. Sidi is the only company that comes to mind that has it. I would love to have Lake shoes because I ride with Speedplay and they make a four bolt shoe.

Shimano also make good carbon-soled shoes. I'll consider them, if they fit.

Read the FAQ (mysteries about .5 sizes, mega and more). There is also an indication that they have changed fit in the last 5 years.

And at half the price of Sidis.

I can't stand Sidi. Their arch support cramps my foot almost immediately.

SIDIs work well with my flattish feet. Fwiw the arch support is built into the last, not the insole.

I just bought a pair of lightly used SID 5 Pro Carbons off Ebay. They are slightly used (Less then 10 times) for $62. They are Megas so I hope they arent too wide. My feet are a little wider than normal. Still a good deal. I just hope I didnt gamble and lose.

I could use a far amount of arch support as well.

That said the 10 years Sidi's have been fine and I really like the quality and the ratchet buckle.

In a ideal world I would try on the various different brands and models but I don't think bike shops stock that many wide bike shoes. If you have a suggestion of a shop in the NY Metro please let me know.

I am in the process of getting a pair of these. Hopefully they are worth the money (different color.)

I wanted the all white but there was a two month wait on them, the white/black/red was available immediately so I went with them. After three rides my feet are almost used to how stiff they are. I was riding some cheapish Pearl Izumi's that had a good bit of flex in them so going to a stiff shoe is taking some adjustment. After riding the PI's for a while I remembered why good shoes are worth the money.
