Maxxis Detonator splitting between tread and sidewall

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maxxis Detonator splitting between tread and sidewall

I bought these Maxxis Detonator at the beginning of summer and probably put 1000 miles on them. I know they are low budget tires, but there is plenty of tread life still. I was taking them off to rotate and noticed this:

It is happening on both tires and multiple places/both sides around each tire. I've enjoyed the grip and toughness (they look dinged and sliced pretty good all around but only one flat all summer), but I'm pretty disappointed they won't live out their tread life. Any other Detonator owners experience similar problems?

"Detonator" has to be the worst tire name ever.

I went on a group ride with some friends recently and a girl had those on her specialized....the first thing I thought about was those things blowing up. Actually it was the second thing...she looked good in cycling bibs so really that was the first thing I thought but still....

Yes, I always thought it was an ironic name. I guess a little longer and I would have found out why.
