Best Trainer Tire?

I know I can use old worn tires as trainer tires, but I accidentally threw mine out in a move. So, of the trainer specific tires, which is the best?

I'd like to know that too. I just ordered a Conti Ulta Sport Hometrainer tire. Some reviewers complain about difficulty mounting, no complaints about premature wear-out.

I've got one and it works totally fine. Yes, a bit hard to get on, but that's par for these tires. I've been riding the crap out of mine and I haven't noticed any premature wear, as compared to regular road tires which really take a beating on the trainer.

I ordered some Soma steel-core levers to deal with this.

I have the Conti which I like. It is hard to mount so best to have a spare wheel and leave it. It's quiet and doesn't get black gunk on the roller. GL

IMHO a $15 wire bead Vittoria Zaffiro will provide the most value on a trainer over any trainer specific tire.

I just decided to get a Keiser indoor spin-trainer "bike". The reviews look very good.

The tire on your back wheel right now will work great. Keep tire pressure up (check every time you ride). I have yet to disintegrate a tire and I've been using trainers since the fall of 1983.

It's free, will barely wear, and you can use your bike on the road without any problems if the weather is nice (tire slips/squeaks for about 1/2 mile if you have trainer haze on the tread).

Disclaimer: I avg about 160-200 watts on rides and don't do sprint efforts. Max wattage is about 1000 on the trainer for me, high pace is 400-500 watts for a minute.

If I had to buy a trainer tire (which I wouldn't because I would have saved my old worn out tires), I would buy the cheapest tire I could find at the LBS or Walmart and use it till it was wore down to the threads (probably a whole winter of daily riding). By then, I would have a worn out tire to start using.

You'd be surprised how fast the tire wears down if you using it regularly. I've never let mine get down to the point where it 'pops' on the trainer, but I've had tires wear down enough to be nonfunctional on the road (you get repeated flats since the tire casing isn't strong enough) within 6 weeks of regular use.

I've got the bright orange Conti trainer tire. Works great!! I have a dedicated trainer tire/wheel setup.

Bought an old rim off ebay and a cheap cassette for under 20 bucks so the tire only had to be mounted once.
