Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

which bike: 09 cervelo s1, '10 caad 9, '11 caad10

in the beginning, it was really either the caad 9 or the caad 10

the cervelo ($2200 probably cheaper) just came up because of the price range i was looking at

the caad 9 would have 105s (5700) ($1350) but its in blue

for the caad10 i would either get the the rival (1800) or 105 group (1500)

i have a 10% discount on all the bikes. i just want to know what bike will be the best (frame wise)

i have heard the cervelo is a little heavier than the caads but makes up for it with its aero and stiffness (heard it may be too harsh). also kind of worried that the cervelo frame is too old since it hasnt been changed in years.

lastly, i like the color black but if the functionality of one bike can trump the other than i will choose the ugly painted bike. the caad9 is blue. i saw it in person and i had wish they just kept all their frames anodized black. i saw the black caad10 and it looked better than the caad9 but not better than the anodized black on the 09's.

i am probably thinking way too much. ill probably go with the black caad10 rival. i think i can compromise the fact that the bike isnt home-made anymore. if i do get buyer's remorse, i can always look at my brother '09 caad9.

Cervelo! But I'm biased. I actually rode it for 1 week (Soloist at the time) and my brother in law rode a Caad 8. He test rode the Cervelo and said it actually felt more comfy than the Caad 8.

It's silly to compare the CAAD8 to the 9/10.

I had a brief experience with CAAD but rode Cervelo S1 for over a year until my upgrade.

Cervelo - By far the stiffest SOB in the planet. The thing is just bomb proof. It will transfer all the power into the wheels. I think it was bit heavy for my liking. I am only 5'9" 140 lbs. I will be fine in the flats but once the hills hit, > 8% I was toast. In addition, I was just getting hammered from the rough loads from where I ride. I think this bike will be perfect for someone who is a sprinter than a tempo rider. Check the specs on what you are buying. Mine came with the Ultegra, but I ended up needing upgrades. Plus I think 2010 was the end of S1, so it can become a classic item. I am kind of bummed that I sold mine already. It also has the internal cable routing so the whole bike looks crisp and clean.

CAAD - I only rode my buddy's CAAD once, but I found that it was stiff but was more forgiving than S1. That's only thing I can remember, but many say that CAAD is by far the best aluminum frame.

What are your plans for the bike? Are you planning for keeping it for a long time?

Well in that case, CAAD9.

Definitely Shimano very easy to replace parts as needed (whether new or used).
Easy to replace frame if crashed.
Easy to upgrade.
Easy to buy.
Easy to love.

If it had to be SRAM, then the CAAD9-4 is hard to beat and it's the hot color.
10% discount? That would have a C9-4 hovering at about $1260. if you get it
at the current $1399. promotional price. Holy S! At that price, I'd jump on that.
