Full bike or frame?
I am debating whether to get a 2010 specialized tarmac expert with Ultegra group for $2999 or a 2011 Specailized Tarmac SL3 pro frameset for $1800 and just remove the components from my current bike which are also Ultegra and put them on the frame. Any advice or suggestions?

what kind of components do you have now/how old are they? I think the frame is the way to go if the components are good. If the components are old or not of decent caliber, I'd say get the Tarmac Expert. Just think how funny it would be to see a guy riding a 2200 or Sora equipped SL3...

I agree. If you want, you can get another Ultegra set for the new frame and probably still keep the cost under $2999.

slight changes in the frame design, 2011 is said to be stiffer, although both use FACT 10r carbon. I seriously doubt you would notice the difference in ride. My regular ride is a 2010 Tarmac comp, bike is stiff, yet alot smoother than my giant Defy. how old is your previous bike and does it have good components? If its old, id say go with the 2010 and either keep the old bike as a back up or sell it. Always cheaper to buy a built bike than to build one, thats if you can live with the parts on the prebuilt bike.

I'd say frame all the way! sell the older frame..you could also buy an sram apex group for the older bike and buy a used pair of wheels....i currently have apex and im very happy with it..

What's your current bike?
Also, do you want one or two bikes? I would probably get a new frame and put the older parts. While having a lot of bikes is nice, I don't need more than one road bike. I only own three bikes. A road bike that I only use for the road. A mountain bike that I normally only use for mountain biking. And a commuter bike for getting around. |
