Need to pick a carbon frame: Cannondale, Specialized, or Scott?
Hey guys, I am brand new to the world of carbon, but so far I've been loving it. I need some advice!
I bought a new Scott CR1 last weekend, I've been in love with it. I brought it into my favorite LBS (not where I bought it) today and while they were doing some work on it, cracked through the clear coat on the seat tube. Being the honest people they are, they fully disclosed it and offered to replace the frame with the following options:
* Scott CR1
* Specialized Tarmac SL2
* Specialized Roubaix SL2
* Cannondale Super Six
They are the local Specialized and Cannondale dealer, thus it is easier for them to replace my Scott frame with either of these brands.
If anybody has any experience with any of these frames, or simply knows about them, please let me know.
I am looking for a comfortable ride, aggressive road geometry is not as important to me (thus my choice of the Scott CR1) so I was thinking about the Roubaix, but the Cannondale has some good reviews on comfort. What do you guys think??

I like the Tarmac as it has a more aggressive geometry than the Roubaix. I found the Roubaix a tad too relaxed not having (not too quantitive on my part) the same gittie-up and go. My 2011 Tarmac is plenty comfortable so far. Also, the pros in the shop that I bought it prefer the Tarmac over the Roubaix. Sorry about your former bike.

Roubaix fits your above criteria to a t.

Roubaix would be perfect for you, but realistically you could probably get a tarmac, throw some spacers on, and flip the stem for a similar effect.

I'm new to road cycling and I bought a 2011 Scott CR1 team. I love it! I plan on keeping it until I can afford a Ti bike or a Scott Addict, and then I'll still keep the my CR1.

If he wants a bike that is comfortable without aggressive geometry why in the heck would he buy the Tarmac when he can the Roubaix to start with? Why get the wrong bike just so you can throw a bunch of half ass fixes at it to make it work?

The world has too many Supersix Hi-Mods, Tarmacs, and Addicts with mountainous spacers.

I love my Roubaix. Without spacers it's plenty agressive or for a more upright proflie add pacers. The Zerts which dampen road viration makes it extremly smooth. great all day rider.

I agree absolutely. I bought my first road bike from them a few months back, a Specialized Allez, and I've been getting parts and labor done there ever since then. They are great people and if anyone is from Gainesville, Super Cool Bike Shop is the place to go. Good honest people who just love bikes.

Had the bottom level Roubaix with the aluminum frame (w/carbon fiber seat stays, seat post, and fork) for 4 years and got a Super Six last year. The Cannondale is a much nicer ride for short rides, long rides, whatever, doesn't matter.

Am I missing something? You loved the Scott, they will replace it with a Scott, where's the dilemma? Just curious, why didn't you buy the bike at your favorite LBS? They deserve extra good press for offering to replace it when you didn't buy it there.

And yes, I am leaning towards replacing the Scott with a Scott. But the guy offered the options, so I thought I'd ask around. What's wrong with that?

step 1: write Roubaix and CR1 on two separate pieces of paper
step 2: put paper in hat
step 3: shake hat
step 4: pick one piece of paper
step 5: choose bike on that piece of paper
alternately: if you don't have a hat or paper, flip a coin.
short answer: none of it sucks, go with the one that's prettier or sexier or lighter or something.
