bottom bracket question- italian oversized?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

bottom bracket question- italian oversized?

So I have heard of English 68, and Italian 70, and English oversized?

What exactly is meant by Italian, oversized.

Reference this: https://www.realcyclist.com/opera-canova-road-frameset

as a follow up: I have a crankset that currently sits on a 68 mm, 103mm spindle, JIS taper bottom bracket. Is there a bottom bracket that will fit that frame (70 mm italian, oversized) and my crankset? I found a 102mm Campagnolo Chorus Bottom Brackets, but it is expensive!!

Sugino makes 103mm JIS, I would think including Italian thread
The Campy Chorus is ISO, so your crank would probably not fit. Even if it did, your chainline would be in 4mm.

My quick searches aren't uncovering any Italian threaded Sugino units. I do know that mid 80's Dura Ace 103mm BB-7400 (cup/loose ball) comes in Italian. I have one on a bike.

Yes they used to come in italian the problem is to find one, the 102 iso could work (maybe with an spacer), the chain line will be off a few mm but in my opinion since you are talking about a road bike is not just that critical, if you dont have the bad custom of using your 53 with a 25 cog you should be ok. I know about mixing jis with iso, but yes u can get away mixing them, not the right thing to do anyways.

The other thing is that even a 107 should work ok, from 103 to 107 are just 2 mm at each side, you wont notice that at all. And you have more chances to find a 107.

The last option is this, and you have a lot of sizes including a 103 jis with italian cups.

Happy shopping
