75 miles between yesterday, this morning, and today at lunch. Plan to get another 25 on my commute home this evening. The watts make these appear like easy rides. My legs and brain believe otherwise though. I'm whoooped! I'm taking tomorrow off.

I personally think wind is evil (except the good witch of the north, the tailwind ;) ) and despise it more than anything. Hills? I LOOOVE hills compared to a headwind. Heat, cold, night, humidity and rain are all less evil than the cursed headwind.
Here, today, the winds are 25-30mph steady with gust of 60mph. Anyone ride in these winds or even stronger winds? Those that do, do you have any tips in riding these strong winds? I'm contemplating going out today but am worried about getting blown into traffic or something. I may just hit the rollers. :p 1. HTFU 2. HTFU even more 2.5. prepare to suffer 3. put your head down and hands on the drops 4. put a gear that you can spin 5. relax your upper body 6. Spin away!! |
Went out in the 30-45 MPH winds yesterday. I have never worked so hard to get 30 miles in 2 hours before. My arms and back are sore from balancing in the crosswind, my legs are sore from spinning against the wind with no more gear to get to, and hammering to enjoy the speed of the tailwind. I love it, can't wait to go out tomorrow. That said, don't go out if you don't have a strong sense of balance to hold your line.

OK, I tried it. Oh man, I'll never do that again.
I went out for abot 30 min. and was blown all over the place with a STIFF crosswind coming off the lake. Plus I was getting wet. :( I couldn't track straight and was blown into the road off the bike patth several times. Luckily no traffic at those times. Riding int the wind was very challenging too. My legs burned! Anyways, I got 15 min out and turned back. Tailwinf for a short period fllowed by cross wind from the other side and was blown into the grass and soft shoulder a couple times. I looked like I was drunck riding. :o Saw 2 other guys riding too and they were weaving as well. Went back home and finished the ride on my rollers. At least I tried it. :twitchy: |
