October mileage thread.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

October mileage thread.

Only 383 miles in October. 2 weeks off the bike for shoulder surgery. Range of motion goals have superceded cycling goals.

Egad - that's a lot of miles. I was impressed by my 248 miles last week (5 rides) but you put things in perspective. I rode 838 miles for October - longest ride 76 miles. 3,500 since I started in June (2 centuries). I expect to be stronger next year but I doubt I will ride more miles. I stopped losing weight after the first two months (25#) but I was pleased to buy 35" Levis last week (40" Levis were too tight six months ago).

What do you carry? Cooler? Lawn chair? Raft?
