Animal problems when cycling

We have all had experiences with cats, dogs, deer and an occassional bear but this takes it to a whole new level!

"In September, businessman Geoff Blythe was attacked by a female elephant as he rode a bicycle ride near his home in the lakeside town of Kariba, 230 miles (370 kilometers) northwest of Harare. He barely survived the nightmarish encounter.

Blythe told family and friends he tried to pedal as fast as he could from the cow elephant and her calf but the bike chain dislodged. He dumped the bike and ran but there were no trees or powerline towers near enough to climb. He threw himself into a gully of soft sand as the elephant overtook him. The elephant gored him in the back and thigh and kicked him into thorny bushes before backing off. Blythe suffered cuts and fractured ribs.

"He was lucky to escape with this life," Rodrigues said."

I am guessing an airzound or pepper spray isn't going to deter an elephant.

One of our members posted about elephants in the road less than a month ago.

Asian elephants are relatively docile compared to African elephants, that said I wouldn't mess with either.

Why why why do people not get a chain catcher or dog fang? A few grammes, a few dollars and you can stay ahead of an elephant.

My son was visiting from out of town last week and I took him for a ride in the hills north of Princeton, NJ in my little Mazda Miata convertible. He was taking pictures of the fall colors, and wanted to get a picture of some deer. I was driving down Lindbergh Road, just past the old Lindbergh estate, when we saw a buck on the edge of the road about a 100 yds. ahead. I got within about 30 yards and stopped. The buck lifted it's head. I tooted the horn, and the buck kinda squared up with us. I popped up the headlights, and he lowered his head and snorted. I was just beginning to think about backing up, when the buck finally decided to retreat into the woods.

I once saw a really good kevin costner movie where he tricks his brother into loosing a cycling shoe to a dog...wait, no other than the part with rae dawn changing a wheel that movie sucked.

Should've squirted it in the face with his water bottle.
