Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I dunno, I can definitely see those things from like half a mile away during the day.

Not at all. It has to do with how we humans perceive movement and speed based on size, etc. That's why there are a disproportionately high number of accidents with motorcycles where a driver pulls out in front of them.

We tend to use blinkies during the day here due to the tree canopies we have here. Some roads are so dense that cars with automatic headlights turn on no matter what.

I have a couple of superflashes (one under the seat and one on the helmet. I'd heard that the radbot 1000 (similar price) are brighter and they have the reflector in case you don't notice your battery dying, so I'd been thinking about getting one of those. Anybody have any experience with those?

I have the Bike Planet and thought it made me very visable. But one evening my wife passed me in her car on a 35 mph road and said she didn't see me until she got very close. I guess that bright flash isn't seen very far away.

I got one a few weeks ago and like it. From my research the PBSF is only brighter when viewed at the perfect angle. There are some reports of durability issues on the Radbot but that wasn't enough to sway me.

They just came out with the Danger Zone which looks kind of cool. It uses two .5w LED's (but no reflector) versus one 1W LED on the Radbot 1000. You can watch a video on their website.

I have noticed that the brightness diminishes as the batteries wear down, though it takes a long time. I just noticed that my wife's is not as bright as it was. She's got a couple thousand miles on that set of batteries.

PBSF on seatpost during day when riding in traffic. It does make a difference.
When riding in town/traffic during the day, a Viewpoint Flare 5 on the bars set to strobe.

That little Viewpoint Flare 5 is actually quite good!
I have one and was pleasantly surprised with it.

The PBSF is the current "standard" tail light blinkie. The Portland Design Works Radbot 1000 is rapidly gaining in popularity though. It seems to produce a more intense light.

I have the PBSF, but am currently on my third one. I really like the build quality and the light itself, but it keeps falling off my seatbag. Anyone else run into this issue/have any thoughts on how to fix it? I'm not convinced mounting it on the seatstays is the answer, since I don't think it puts the light high enough to be visible, and the seatpost mount doesn't work with my seatbag (not enough exposed post).

I superglued a piece of soft rubber on the inside of the bag mounting tab to keep the light tight.

Have to disagree with you on that one. I use my Super Flash day and night and have been on group rides and had to be mindful of NOT turning it on as to not blind the guy drafting behind me. I bought one after dropped on a morning ride by a friend on a ride who had one; I could see his super flash a mile up the road, in the daylight.

I have the PBSF on my set post in the back and like it. My question is what blinky type light to get for the front. I have carbon bars and very limited space. I am currently using I cheap light with elastic bands that is ok. and small and easy.

I ride in NYC and Long Island and do not run lights during the day. I do wear a red jacket and have a bar end mirror one the left side. I have gotten a few comment on group rides about the mirror (they probably think it is fred like) but I don't care. I highly recommend the mirror https://www.pricepoint.com/detail/163...nd-Mirrors.htm

Sigma Blade on the front, PBSF on the back, for daylight. I can tell by how the cars pass me and freeze on left turns I'm popping out from the background chatter.

We look down on you because you live in Corrales, vato...not because of your fredelicious lights.

To the OP...make sure your PBSF is angled properly to give full effect.

I use the super flash as well. I can tell the difference in the way drivers react to me up ahead, even in daylight. Also, adds safety when you disappear beneath the underpasses. I recently added the highlighter yellow Descente shell (pic below) to my Hi-Vis repertoire and, as with the super flash, I can tell the difference: drivers are picking me up in their field of vision sooner.

Zip tie it horizontally to the back of your helmet. I've done that on mine. Advantage? PBSF doesn't fall off, you always have it with you, the light is mounted higher thus better seen by cars from from a further distance behind you, doesn't get covered with road grime.
