Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hi all this is my first post to this great forum. I have a flat spot on on Mavic Ksyrium ssc sl rear wheel. These came standard on my cannondale road bike. I have conti gran prix 3000 tires 23ml. I am 6 foot tall 205 pounds. Can I repair this? Is this a durable training wheelset? I ride as hard as I can at night after the family goes to bed. Please advise.

What are a good set of strong rims. I have read that spoke count can be an important factor. My rims have the black flat Mavic spokes. Are these strong. I could have damaged the rim by having a loose spoke. I do not know. Should I consider a different wheel for the back or can I have the rear rim replaced. What rim should I get for that listed wheel. I appreciate any help.

My suggestion is take it to your LBS (Local Bike Store). They will be able to advise you the best but if your rim is bent too much you will need to replace it but otherwise they should be able to fix it. My extent of knowledge about bikes repair isn't that great but it would help if you could post a picture of the spot on your rim in question. I would be happy to host the image if need be. Just contact me if that is needed.

I dont' think the spot would show up in a photo. You can only see it when you spin the wheel and note the relationship between the brakes and wheel. I am taking it in tommorrow. It blows not being able to go for my half hour speed around the neighborhood tonight. Thks for your advice.

That would be sweet if I got out of this for free. I could not believe how much those Mavic wheels on my bike would be to replace. I got a great deal on the bike last year. Now maybe I can get that niterider to brighten up those bumps in the night. Thanks man!

My bike shop treats me very well almost as if I was a sponsored rider for them expect I have to pay for everything but they do give me discounts. Your welcome to contact me if you have any question that I can help you with I do have msn messenger, aim and yahoo messenger. Good luck.

An out-of-true wheel can usually be fixed (i.e., trued). Although possibly not always the case, a wheel with a flat spot (a.k.a. out-of-round) usually cannot be fixed. Good luck. I hope your wheel won't need rebuilding.

If you are going to be serious about this (riding) you really need a second set of wheels.
