98.5 or around the block enough to get 100
So on my afternoon ride today, i ended up with 61 miles, and ended up circling the block a couple of times to get to 100km. Wondering how many of you would just quit at 98.5 (km or miles), vs how many are anal enough and will ride around aimlessly (pointlessly) just to hit the mark?

On an organized ride this spring my Edge 705 read 98 miles nearing the finish line. My ride partner and I turned at the next corner and made a lap of the downtown to get to 100...
Not sure if it's anal or just making sure I reach my goal. I was a programmer/analyst so I can honestly say being anal was part of my job title.

Depends on km's or miles......To make 100 miles, I'd do it to make it a century. To make 100 km's, nope. 42-65 miles is just another usual ride for us depending on how we feel. I've done 86 mile rides and added another loop to make the 100 miles. But as far as km's, no significance at 100 IMO.

A regular loop from my house is 118 miles. I've never jumped on the bike path next to my home to bring it up to 200km. I suppose I might do it to bring myself from 196 miles to 200 miles, but doubles are special to me.

I ride around the block or whatever to reach 100 km, 100 miles, 200 km, etc., if I'm anywhere within about 10 km of the goal. It just feels more complete to me.
The only one where it is a bit of debate is on the 300K brevet vs double century distance ... or 300 km vs 323 km. Sometimes when I've finished a 300K brevet I've been energetic enough to keep riding to make it a double century ... and some of my 300K brevets have actually been anywhere from 305 to 320 km so that makes it all the more tempting. But if I've had a particularly difficult brevet, I might just call it a day at the end of the brevet and not spend the extra half hour or whatever it is out there to make it a double century.

Depends on whether you care about big round numbers or not. I'll admit I've gone around the block to make an even 100 a few times, but more often than not I'll come in at 90-something miles and it really doesn't matter to me.

Ride around the block at the start to make up the difference.

Post count doesn't matter. Miles don't matter.
Doesn't mean I don't do a lot of both. I just don't target specific numbers of them.
I've never seen any evidence you even ride a bike. You never post except to complain about others.

I've done it many times, and thought I was one of the very few silly enough to do that!

My goals tend to be on the weekly and monthly basis. Many times I've ridden extra if I knew I was going to come in just below.

My centuries are rare these days. So yeah, I'd loop the block for the extra one point five.

I'd skip it the loop around the block.

Anything over 80km makes me go for 100. I dont think I have any rides between 80-99.9km, come to think of it.
Edit - I have one ride of 88.5km, from climbing Bhutan's highest pass last month and then blasting down. 6 hours on the bike with nothing but a bottle of Perpeteum and some raisins. I was starving and stopped to eat. Got dark by the time I was done, and so I was unable to make my 100.
So at 98.5 - no-brainer.

On the last day of July, after finishing a 54 mile ride, I rode out and back an additional 3 miles so that I could reach 300 miles for the month.

The first few times I would get up near the 100km or mile mark, I would make sure to reach it. After a while I stopped caring. When I see my front door, my ride is over.

I've done it before, but I don't bother anymore. I know I can make it and don't need to prove anything to myself or others. On the other hand, I don't think 99 miles is a century and won't say I rode one if I cut it short.
It all depends on how I feel. Even if I ride the "full" distance, I sometimes still feel like riding. No need to let your odometer tell you how far you should ride.
