Tire Question

My Neuvation FC100 Carbon Frame, Rival components Road Bike, has Michelin Pro3 23 Race tires.

I just bought a trainer (travel trac fluid + adjustable) , and of course, will not use those tires with it.

I happen to have 3 Maxxis Xephyr M202 25c tires here, so I am planning on using those, both for my current outdoor rides (60s here in philly right now.. ) and to start using the trainer.

Could someone advise if that's a good plan, and explain a little about the tires as I have no clue? Are these maxxis training tires? Also, how many miles should my michelins pro3s last on the road?

Thanks.

I highly recommend that you purchase a trainer specific tires like the ones made by Continental and Vittoria. These tire are designed specifically for use on a home trainer. They do not heat up like regular tires, they do not wear down like road tires do on a trainer and they no not leave little bits of rubber all over the floor like road tires do when used with a trainer. The trainer specific tires are not to be used on the road. There is no reason to ruin good road tires on a trainer.

There's no need to buy trainer specific tires. Just use an old road tire.

right, I figured I'd use these maxxis I described above on the trainer given I have 3 of them laying around which is a perfect number for the circumstances, and this will allow me to hit the road as well.. So I wanted your input on how these tires rate on the road.

Anyway, I did it. Swapped the michelin pro3 23c for the maxxis xephyr m202 25c and took a quick 15 mile ride today. I THINK I felt a huuuuge difference... Think I was reeeeaally slow.. :/ ?

Thanks.

Swapping out tires can make the bike feel very different, but it's still a good bet you're wrong on the first thing, but right on the second.

Never tried the Maxxis, but it's highly unlikely they slowed you down that much.

Well, that's the thing. I knew these maxxis wouldnt be as fast as the slick racing michelin pro3s. I understand my mind is playing a part in this.. As well as the fact That I've been riding every day without a break for say 5 days, and that today the path was crowded because it was nice out.... I'm leaving them on.. and my computer shall tell me... They are definitely rougher feeling.

Swapped the skewer and setup the trainer too.. Now I'm ready for it all.

Thx.
