Neuvation Wheels
 

Ok so I'm sure there have been discussions about them before but I want something up today so sorry if this is a repeat of sort.
I'm planning to pick up a new set of wheels for my latest bike. Currently it has Alex Aclass ALX 220s that came on it (enough said). I'm not looking to spend 1K+ on wheels but maybe <500 but I do want something that's not junk. I weight 115-120 so weight isn't a concern but I would like a lightish wheel that's more aero than my current wheels. So I've been looking at Neuvations because of the price and reviews I've read. Does anyone have experience with there wheels? Mainly R28 aero 3s. Or maybe Soul 2.0 or Easton wheels or Reynolds . Would I be better off spending more on something other than Neuvations or just keep what I have? Any insight would be greatly appreciated I'm very indecisive sometimes :(

Seriously, the neuvations have a pretty good rep although I believe they had some QCi ssues a couple of years ago that seem to have improved. If you have problems John Nugent has a rep for very good customer service.

The souls are also pretty good in bang/buck dept. Eastons are decent. You should also look at Williams.

Finally, consider a set of handbuilts, contact psiment (BF member) for more details.

The Nuevations are great budget wheels. I've heard of the QC issues, but that was a few years ago. If you are a lighter rider, go with the R28. I have put more than 1k miles on the M28 and haven't had any issues. Still true and smooth.

Also I'm sure the search function is working great but I'm on my Blackberry so reading threw a bunch of threads takes a while plus I wanted something more current since they have changed their wheels simi recently. Also I've read a few post I've found on here a while back so sorry.

+1 for the Neuvations, I have many miles on my M28 AERO3s with zero issues, true and straight, I weigh 210. Hair dryer will make sticker removal quite easy, they look better with half the stickers removed.

Be on the look out at bonktown. They have a set of Fulcrum Racing 7s for less than $200. You just need to time it right.

Thanks for the bonktown tip and I'm not in any hurry really just wanted them for next season really. Do u think the Fulcrum 7s are a better wheel than the Neuvations? Also as far as QC goes I've heard Neuvation has top notch customer service. I also agree with the sticker comment

Have had a set of M28 aero 3's for over 2k now on my Roubaix, no issues. Still true and quiet. Be on the lookout for aThanksgiving sale possibly coming up. Picked mine up that way. Also bought the extra warranty just in case. Go for it!!!!

They feel about the same to me. I bought the Fulcrums from bonktown just because of the price, but I feel no difference between that and the Neuvations.

2500 miles on my M28s over low-to-high quality roads, no problems. Great product, can't beat the price.

Thanks that's the type of answer I was looking for. I like the look of Fulcrum wheels. Actually I like the look of my current Alex wheels. As far as looks go I think Souls win but also Reynolds aren't bad either. I definitely want a black rime and some red it the graphics is a plus but I'm not going to chose a wheel solely on looks alone. Performance would be the priority.

Look at the Fuzion M1 wheels also. Price is right- but warning they are on close-out, limited supply from what I have been told and once sold they are gone. Slightly higher spoke count, and maybe a little bit heavy compared to some of the higher end stuff mentioned above (Neuvation and lower spoke count included)

I just ordered mine so can't comment yet on them.

That Fuzion M1 has been on closeout/limited supply for almost a year. I suspect they are limited only to the number of units they can sell :P

i have a set of R28s, on 1 bike, that i bought on ebay. have put around 2k on them with no problems. just bought replacement bearings for both hubs and 6 spare spokes for $24 shipped. so i plan on keeping them a while,

Looks like Neuvations are the winners so far but I'm still open to anyone's suggestion on something different and why they are better.
I have also ready that Neuvation offer(ed) a ceramic bearing upgrade for their wheels. Do they still do this I couldn't find it on their site. If so is it worth the upgrade? It also seems like the latest models have silver hubs where as the older models I've seen had black hubs. I wonder if you can still get black hubs ?

I have a set of M28s with about 5k on them. Slightly out of true at 4k. Zero problems, otherwise. Good wheels.

They stopped offering ceramics. Durability problems.

if you get the r-series neuvations, get an american classic clip kit, and save your aluminum freehub.

My R28s are good wheels. It took me some time to remove the 16 ugly decals.

Hard to go wrong with Neuvations.
As noted a hair dryer is need to help get the excess stickers off.

I almost feel like asking if they will sell them without the stickers upon request. It's a hassle to remove them, even with a hair dryer. I removed ALL of my stickers with good results.

A pair of budget wheels I really like are the Planet X Model Bs or whatever - the $150 jobbies. Relatively light, aero spokes, moderate spoke count.

I've been using them on chip-sealed roads and not only have they held up very well, they are also noticeably smoother than the DT Swiss PT wheelset I got from Competitive Cyclist (same tires, same pressure). For their price, I've been very impressed.
