Fred

Magazines are for business time. They serve their purpose and in a pinch can serve a second purpose if the spindle is empty.

I just renewed my Bicycling magazine subscription. Always nice to have fresh paper handy just in case. Plus the pictures are pretty.

I can say for certainty that I have never been so destitute or careless that I needed to use a magazine for double-duty.

On second thought - maybe I should save all Lance-centric issues. Might come in handy.

Ride - better known as Ride Cycling Review - followed by Bicycling Australia.

The Euro and US magazines always arrive (up to 2) months after release, so not great for Australian customers.

I also have a wack of them in my basement
Most of them have Greg Lemond some where on the cover
or another article on the coors classic lol

Gotta camp more then. But that's another forum all together

Isn't most of it kind of a bit childish and "fanboyesque" to buy these magazines? I understand maybe magazines that celebrate riding in general (there are some that are more like the Alpinist magazine, which focuses on the activity, not the pro aspect of the sport). But to buy a magazine that "Profiles" a bike makes me laugh.

I don't get your perspective. If I'm interested in an activity, be it photography, weight lifting, cycling, motorcycling, home fashion...doesn't it make sense to want to read about that activity? I don't know about you, but I can't stare at a computer all day and brouse forums and internet articles. Of course, many mags are pure garbage...but there are some really quality ones out there for every activity. I went to the book store today and saw about 10 different cycling mags. Was hoping someone would recommend a good one. There is nothing "fanboy" about wanting to read up on your favorite activity. Honestly, I don't give a rat's ass about any biking personalities. I'm interested in technique, tips, training and equipment and maybe some good ride stories. I am a total noob and want to learn as much as I can, but staring at the computer all day hurts my eyes.

Bicycling.

They have great articles, especially about Lance or about how to ride better in 5 easy steps.

I find Bicycling to be laterally stiff yet vertically compliant.

jermso 11-16-10 12:25 AM

RIDE from australia

rollin 11-16-10 12:53 AM

I'd be interested to know if anyone is getting any cycling mag on their iPad. I get a couple of the UK mags. Would live a Ride Australia "feed"

I'm not sure what your beef is here. Do you feel the same way about all sporting or hobby magazines? What about car or motorbike magazines? They profile specific cars and bikes - do they make you laugh?

I'm just curious whether it's only cycling magazines that seem fanboyish to you.

Cycle Sport America is a good one.

geist 11-16-10 06:23 AM

Embrocation and Rouleur.

kenl666 11-16-10 10:22 AM

Road Bike Action. Also ran across one I hadn't seen before, Paved. Joe Parkin is the editor, seems like he's trying to get more into the rides and races.

i just picked up Paved as well. it was their premier issue. lots of nice photos in it, great story about the history of PED's in cycling. Overall, i liked it.

kleinboogie 11-16-10 10:47 AM

Velonews

rat fink 11-16-10 11:52 AM

If Rapha made a cycling magazine, I'd probably buy that.

Blaireau 11-16-10 11:53 AM

^^^^^ They do.

crhilton 11-16-10 12:14 PM

Paved, because "bicycling is not the new golf."

Second: Velonews. Mostly for the photos and tech section, because I already know the race results from the site, or I don't care about the race results.
