SRAM Red LTE--The Pinnacle of Bike Weenies

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

SRAM Red LTE--The Pinnacle of Bike Weenies

One of my friends posted this on FB (BTW, FB sucks); I wanted to press the dis-Like button but there isn't one.

At $2,200 is this proof that QEII is working?
https://www.artscyclery.com/descpage-SRRGLC6.html

One of the reasons why I bought SRAM Red in 2008 was the fact that it was cheaper than both 10-speed Campagnolo Record and DA 7800. I paid in the neighborhood of $1,300 for the entire SRAM Red groupset, which I thought was an insane amount for bike parts.

I always knew SRAM was not the prettiest groupset out there--I liked it because it was cheap(er), lighter albeit I really didn't care too much about this point, and was very functional.

Now they have taken the questionable aesthetics of SRAM Red, sanded, painted, and anodized some parts and are betting people will be willing to pay a huge premium.

Is anyone out there going gaga for SRAM Red LTE?

Also, isn't it paradoxical that something that says "red" is actually yellow?

Nope and I wouldn't pay that for what looks like a Livestrong gruppo

Better question--if you had a choice of choosing SRAM Red (regular) or LTE at the same price-point where you would be guaranteed to be able to afford it, which would you choose (this is such a slow-ball pitch, someone hit it out please)?

I would probably pay a slight premium for the regular Red color scheme. The yellow is too LA/Livestrong for my taste.

Swinging away...

I expected someone to say, "Campy" or "DA".

So, you're pissed off that they're offering this? I don't get it. It's not like they stopped offering regular red and this is your only choice or something...

Personally, I don't really like it much, tho I suppose if I had a yellow-themed bike I probably would.

It's obviously a promotional offering given that the Tour was won on it.

I would pick yellow, only because it would be color coordinated with my blue and yellow Colnago (see sig), and wouldn't look a thing like Livestrong; red otherwise.

I don't really understand why they made that into a production model. You have an entire population of people who avoid buying yellow jerseys because of the connotations, yet you decide putting out a yellow groupset would be smart?

It's just proof that, once you get people hooked on KoolAid, they'll pay ever-increasing amounts of money to get it. Even if the flavor is exactly the same.

Did I really come off like I was "pissed off"?

Maybe my bike-snob status is confirmed.

I'm not trying to be persuasive but one has to be clinically insane to really want this group-set--I mean REALLY want it.

I'm still trying to figure out what the mostly black disc is with teeth on it. It can't be a cog since it doesn't have teeth all the way around, so wtf is it?

No one's making you buy it.

If you want to own the best, then be prepared to pay for it.

If you're okay with stuff that's a little heavier that works pretty much every bit as well, then buy a level or two lower. It's your choice really.

Thanks captain obvious.

Except that in this case, there is no functional difference nor is there a weight difference, AFAIK. This is the whole point of this thread (actually there is no point really).

As far as "best", I am arguing that the LTE is actually worse than the regular Red.
