Holy crap, that was some wind!
Went out on a 20 mile ride today trying to beat an approaching snowstorm that's supposed to drop over two feet on us by the middle of next week. Some fairly stiff winds in the open areas and coming off the lake. At one point I had a death grip on the bars and was seriously leaning into the wind just to stay out of the middle of the road. Then on the return I ran into a gust that took me from about 15 mph to 0 :eek:in no time. Barely got my foot unclipped and out before I went over. I've never had that happen before. Needless to say I made good time for the few miles the wind was at my back! Dang aero Rolf wheels were like sails today but my other two rides are down for repair and with winter fast approaching I didn't want to pass up the chance to ride.

Yikes dude! That was quite an adventure.

Cool story bro. Wind sucks.
Or does it... |
Wow. I've had some pretty horrible wind but never any that literally stopped me in my tracks. Good thing that didn't hit you as a crosswind.

I always remember biking down the Oregon coast on the way to past San Fran. Fully loaded, these gusts came wooshing along and pushed me up a little steep bit on some twisty, low guard rail bits with good drops off the sides. I am sure all the panniers front and back made a good sail, but I vividly recall the feeling of being pushed up hardly pedalling. Remember also holding on like heck and keeping my distance from the guardrail in case a weird side gust came up (didnt, but had me worried).
strong head winds are so demoralizing. I'll take a good steep climb over headwinds any day of the week. |
What part of utah are you in? I was riding home from work in the Draper area and I've never felt wind like that before. I made the mistake of blowing my nose right when a gust came and I was left one handed with my wheel pointing one way and me desperately leaning the other way trying to stay upright.

Aero rims are no fun in crosswind, and worse when it is commuting. During the summer months, I have a 20+ crosswind on most of my rides, You do get used to riding in it, but it still sucks!
