Garmin can bite me
Why don't I give a flying fark about a Garmin or any other GPS on my bicycle?
A) I always know where I'm going when I'm a bicycle, so the GPS map function strikes me as stupid.
B) There's a limit to how much I want to know about my rides.
C) Anything I do want to know about my rides is conveyed to me by my Joule 2.0, along with an array of other data that I could give a fark about.
I do understand why so many cyclists think this thing is the Fred's Meow. I am not one of them. Good grief this whole Map My Ride stuff is dumb.
This is cycling, it's all pretty dumb.

I take it it's specifically the GPS that you disdain since you have a Powertap which as far as data and metrics go, is the holy grail of overengineered cycling science.

Pcaddy will be singing a different song in a couple years, when he starts *needing* something to help him find his way home.
BTW I have used the nav feature quite a few times when taking new routes up into the mtns.
It is also very handy to check how far you are to the next town when on unfamiliar roads.

Just put a new route in my Garmin that I'm looking forward to riding tomorrow. I'd rather focus on my ride than figuring out where I am. 51 miles, 5000 feet of climbing. Definitetly don't want to miss a turn and miss out on some ups.

The 500 really only nominally has a GPS. I like that it collects so much data for me to review later, and the map plotting is helpful in as far as I can remember which hill is which (and be embarrassed that what I thought was a grueling climb was actually just a piddly little bump) but yeah, they could leave the GPS off and it'd still be the best cycling computer out there and worth the $200.

I bought my 705 because it has large easy to read fonts and great back lighting so I can see it in the dark. I have used the GPS functions a few times when I want to plan out my route. Say I want to ride for 30 miles but I want to take different roads because I get easily board looking at the same scenery. I can plan out my ride on the computer ahead of time and get turn-by-turn directions.

How many miles did you ride before that happened?
