Need Cheap Helmet
I am tight on money and I need a new helmet. Do you guys know about any good helmets around $30-$40?
|
Performance Bike has the Giro Transfer and the Bell Furio in your budget, or if you can stretch it a little or wait until it goes on sale, the Bell Alchera is the best helmet for the price I've ever owned (frequently on sale for $40-45, currently $60).

I'm pretty satisfied with my Bell Furio. It cost $36, online for a new one (2010). It seems to have decent ventilation. It's hard for me to tell though, because I haven't ever had any airflow problems with helmets. The helmet is comfortable (for me). FWIW, the small weighs somewhere around 270g.

I wear a Giro Indicator when I ride my hybrid. Less than $40, comfortable, and has a removable visor. You'd probably want to remove the visor for road use though; tried it a few times on my road bike and it blocked my view too much when I was in the drops.

I've been happy with Bell Solar helmets. I'm on my second, purchased from Amazon for $25. Used up my first one in a crash.

Go toyour LBS and be on the lookout for Specialized Air Force helmet. They go for about $30-$40

+1 for the Alchera....if you shop around you can likely get one for 35 bucks.

I went with a Ascent Strada, on sale not for $29.99 at Performance and Nashbar. I almost went with one of the Bell/Giro models mentioned above, but this was $10-$20 cheaper and I tried it on in the store and the fit was good.

If you have a large head, the Specialized Max is great, inexpensive Helmet. around $40. Highly recommend

Bell helmets are available at Wal-Mart for under $30. They'll protect your head well-enough, but they're not very cool in warmer climates due to smaller/fewer vents.

I think I will go for the Bell Solar. It looks good and I get free shipping! Thanks for the replies everybody! I will also go check out Walmart tomorrow before ordering.

+1. They're just as protective as a $300 helmet, and probably as light and as well ventilated as high end helmets were 10- 20 years ago.

Yep, here are 2 of the top helmets in 1994, the Bell Razor and the Bell Image Pro (the two on the left. I had a cheap Bell Cyclone on the right)
