Pearl Izumi tights sizing question...
I am looking to buy a pair of the fleece tights from pearl izumi but when I look at the sizing charts it looks bad. I have 31/32 inch waist and wear a size 34 inseam on my jeans. according to the sizing charts I need a Large inseam but a medium/small waist. which would you prescribe. Thanks for your help.

Don't buy tights that you can't try on first. Sizing on cycling wear is wildly inconsistent and manufacturer's charts aren't much help. If you have to guess however, go with the Large, as pearl izumi generally runs small.

If PI tights run small that would be the opposite of their shorts which are on the large side as I have to wear a small in PI and medium in every other brand.

I think that PI sizing tend to favor the taller person, or, at least, the taller person's upper upper body. A few years ago, I got a great deal on a pair of PI bib knickers in large. I'm 5'9" and 165 lbs, 34 waist. It seemed OK in the store, but I feel that the fit in the waist is maybe a bit too big for me--I prefer the snug fit of a medium. I also had to shorten the shoulderstraps by about 4 inches on each side, by cutting and sewing them back together. The legs are a great for me. I think that if you are a tall slim person, PI might not be for you. You'll get the length, but you also might be sliding around in them on the saddle.

Thanks for the input everyone. Well I drove out to the local galyans store for some nike air pegusus and what luck they had the PI fleece pants in stock so I tried them on and large fit ok maybe a tad to big. Anyway I figure since I would be wearing them over my shorts they should be OK. So of course I go home and order them off Nashbar with the coupon. Thanks again.

I normally wear large in PI shorts, but when I needed a pair of tights for the winter, the large were just to baggy and much too long. Medium ended up being the best size. Glad I had a LBS to try them on and buy them from. Sadly, they have stopped carrying PI, so its back to fitting by mail. :L

Most biking apparel brands, including P.Izumi, run small. It's best to try it on first. If that's not possible, order one size up or non at all. It's likely that P.Izumi doesn't make bottoms that will fit your proportions exactly.
