Don't do it moderator. Don't even think about it. Also sucks if you work retail or Walmart. As a vegetarian and completely clueless about football, I celebrate this day by volunteering in a food bank or when I was EMT, I made sure I was on call or rode that day. And for estrange siblings and families, this day and Xmas are the worst days to be. That's the flip side I guess to an otherwise numb denial to genocide and such. In a Buddhist way, there is really no difference in pain and pleasure nor there is between burden and gratitude. There! I pissed on your lawn. Thanks! |

At the end of May, my house burned. Some things like clothing were salvaged. But furnishings, etc were all lost. I have great insurance. We are probably one to two weeks away from moving back in. My wife was home at the time and got out. One of our pets was inside during the entire incident, was saved by the firemen, and is OK. All my bikes burned up. They have now been replaced. The ceiling in the master bedroom collapsed, and the fire was above in the attic and in the garage so had it been in the middle of the night, we may not have survived. The alarm did not go off until smoke actually got into the house and my wife was outside. All the fire was above and venting upward.
Point? Material stuff is nice. But I am simply thankful that we are all intact and hopefully celebrating Christmas in our rebuilt house. It could have been a lot worse. |
I'm trying to figure out how I could ever convince my insurance company that my bike crap would cost me $25K to replace, but it's not happening. I gave my insurance agent a list of all my stuff a few years ago, but it's never updated.
Oh well. As a Mets fan, trying to come up with things to be thankful for is........... difficult. |

The "trick" here is to make sure that the amount of contents on your policy is adequate. And that you have replacement cost coverage which means they pay you the depreciated amount up front and the difference later once you replace things. Or you can schedule the bikes and provide values (with copies for their records) and pay an extra premium for that. In my case I had an old CAAD4 with 9 speed Ultegra and they replaced it with a CAAD9 with Rival, comparable bike since the old one's no longer available. You don't convince. You simply provide proof. With that, it was as smooth as could be. At least the Mets decided to move on with decision-making personnel. Be thankful someone finally realized that Omar was not getting the job done. |

I suppose I could show them my Photobucket page with pics of all this crap. Plus it's all documented in my BF Threads.
That new Mets manager sounds like a moron by the way. My contents was valued and I had a check about four weeks after the fire. When I replaced my bike stuff, I sent it along to the adjuster and had a check two weeks later. And I am thankful for really professional people at the insurance company, and at the restoration contractor. |
1. My kid's health.
2. A wife that pretends to love me so well that I actually believe her. 3. My life in general. 4. That I can do things others only dream of, but even more so, that I can sincerely appreciate how lucky I am for it. 5. That in this messed up global economy I had the balls to do what I just did 3 weeks ago. 6. That I can physically do and enjoy simple things like riding a bicycle! |

I'm thankful I'm not an old, slow cyclist, like Pcad.

So far I've had boxed cereal (including Shreddies), toast, banana, and a sweet roll. No "porridge." |
I have too many to list.

Oh, I'm thankful I don't have to take care of a little munchkin all the time. I don't think I'd last a week.

If I listed all the things for which I should be thankful, it would be longer than the Addictions thread.
1. The love of God through his son, Jesus Christ, and the forgiveness of sins. 2. Having a good job. 3. Good health. 4. Living in the USA. 5. Great kids. 6. Never been hungry unless I chose to. 7. Having extra money for extras like cycling (and giving to those in need). 8. Etc. |
I'm thankful I don't live on the east coast so I don't have to listen to sports talk revolving around the Yankees, Knicks, and especially the Mets. Speaking of forgiveness of sins, Pcad needs to forgive the Mets and move on with his allegiance.
Then again, what do I care if he enjoys self torture? |
we also have snain.
