So. You're going down a hill pretty fast. All of a sudden a set of potholes comes up. You swerve to avoid them. Now, while you're busy swerving for your life, there might possibly be someone behind you. Do you take a hand off the bars, putting yourself in danger, to warn them? Or are you kind of busy trying not to crash yourself?
It's different when I'm riding with friends, where I do my best to point out stuff.

+1 This pretty much sums it up for me. I'm sorry, but when I'm out riding, I'm just looking out for me, regardless if someone announces that they're drafting me. I didn't ask them to and I'm not going to endanger myself to point out obstacles to them. They can always just pass me if they want to have a clear vision of the road.

I don't mind being yelled at in a race or a group ride, but I would hate to be yelled at by total strangers who latch on to my wheel on the public roads because I didn't RTFM!

What happened after the pothole? Did they just go on? the pothole may have caught them by suprise. I will warn other cyclists following me, if I can. If it is sudden I may not be able to.
As others have said, it is best to follow at a safe distance if you are riding with cyclists for the first time.

Ahhh...you remind me of that scene in "A few Good Men" where Tom Cruise asked the Marine he had on
the stand how he knew how to get chow when it wasn't in the "manual" as pointed out by Kevin Bacon.
Capt. Ross: Corporal Barnes, I hold here the Marine Corps Outline for Recruit Training. You're familiar with this book?
Cpl. Barnes: Yes, sir.
Capt. Ross: You've read it?
Cpl. Barnes: Yes, sir.
Capt. Ross: Good. Would you open it up to the chapter that deals with code reds, please?
Cpl. Barnes: Sir?
Capt. Ross: Just flip open to the page of the book that talks about code reds.
Cpl. Barnes: Well, sir code red is a term that we use, I mean, just down at Gitmo, I really don't think that...
Capt. Ross: Ah, we're in luck then. Standard Operating Procedures, Rifle Security Company, Guantanamo Bay Cuba. Now I assume we'll find the term code red and its definition in that book. Am I right?
Cpl. Barnes: No sir.
Capt. Ross: Coporal Barnes, I'm a Marine. Is there no book. No pamphlet or manual, no regulation or set of written orders or instructions that lets me know that, as a Marine, one of my duties is to perform code reds?
Cpl. Barnes: No sir. No book, sir.
Capt. Ross: No further questions.
[as Ross walks back to his table Kaffee takes the book out of his hand]
Kaffee: Corporal would you open this book up to the part that says that where the mess hall is.
Cpl. Barnes: Well, Lt Kaffee, that's not in the book either, sir.
Kaffee: You mean to say the entire time you've been at Gitmo you've never had a meal?
Cpl. Barnes: No, sir. Three squares a day, sir.
Kaffee: Well, I don't understand. How did you know where the mess hall was if it wasn't in this book?
Cpl. Barnes: I guess I just followed the crowd at chow time, sir.
Kaffee: Thanks. No more questions.
Got that Captain Ross?
And following the crowd when the crowd is doing the right thing is a "good" thing.

It's threads like this that reaffirm my decision to avoid any group ride activity. Do any of you ever wonder why most people think roadies are arrogant dooshes? Re-read the thread.

You can't handle the truth! Son, we cycle on roads that has potholes, and those potholes have to be pointed out by the lead cyclist in tights. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Contador, and you curse the UCI. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Contador's beef, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, prevents endos and tacoed wheels. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at recovery rides, you want me on that lead bicycle, you need me by that road hazard. We use words like hammer, drafting, sprint, lead out trains. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent on saddles conquering hills. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of safe MUPs that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you put on your tights, clip in, and ride. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to, you need to HTFU!

Re-read what the OP wrote, he had spoken to and made eye contact with the two riders in front. Then follows 4 pages of why the OP was wrong, for reasons that are beyond comprehension in most cases, including the calling of names (unnannounced wheel sucker, etc) to justify their positions. It's not the message that shows the dooshiness, it is the words that are used to deliver it.

So which were the "dooshy" posts?

But then again, I'm an arrogant doosh, and would not want to ruin my hard-earned reputation.
Riding a road bike didn't make me a doosh, I was like this out-of-the-box
