I bought a new bike. Was it a good idea?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I bought a new bike. Was it a good idea?

I was considering between a 2009 Cannondale CAAD9 6 and a 2010 Orbea Aqua TTG.

I ended up getting the Orbea Aqua TTG. I'm still not really sure of my decision. I think I did the right thing. They have the exact same everything except the Orbea has a carbon seat while the CAAD9 only had carbon-wrapped.

You bought a new bike, that is always a good idea. As for which one is better, I would have to say that the bike you own is much better than the bike that you don't own. Ride the wheels off of it and enjoy yourself. Worrying about which is better is pointless.

Stand by your decision. You do not need validation from inteweb strangers. Just ride it and enjoy.

On the other hand...that bike blows chunks! Send it to me.

just ride the hell out of it and in no time you'll forget about whether or not this bike was better or worse than some other bike.

They are both great bikes. The nice thing about the Orbea is that they are not nearly as common so that to me is a bonus. Other people swear by the CAAD 9 so they would have gone that way. It is all about what you like and since you liked the Orbea better then in my opinion you made the right decision.

This.

I have a lot of people come to me about the buying of a few things:

Bikes
Camera's and camera related gear
Computer, TV, electronic stuff

In all instances I typically conclude like this "You have budgeted X amount of dollars. Buy something within that price range, and you're going to be happy either way."

Well, I like the carbon seatpost of the Orbea, I do like that it isn't as common. But something in me likes the ooooh and awwww of the more "desirable" Caad9.

I just lifted the Orbea, and I think it might be a bit heavier than the Caad9, but I could be mistaken.

One reason that I bought it over the Caad9 is that the guys at the other shop set the bike up for me. They measured me, cleaned everything, and got me on it. The other bike just let me ride it and wouldn't even clean it if I bought it. (Well, they'd clean it, but i couldn't have it that day.)

I upgraded from a 1987 Cannondale Black Lightning. Like the bike below. It was a 56 cm frame, and I need a 54 cm, which will help anyway.

How dirty are the bikes at your local shops? I've never seen a bike for sale that wasn't ready to take out the door after a fitting.

I guess the real reason I'm freaking out just a bit is that I can't really find any good reviews about the bike. Most of the bikes I see for Orbea are the Onix and etc. No one seems to be talking about the Orbea Aqua TTG.

It would appear that you already did.... for the Orbea

That Orbea looks like a fine bike. And now that you've been reassured, go ride the hell out of it instead of asking questions that really don't matter anymore.

I really wish I could. It has been raining all day. Pretty excited to take it out tomorrow if it isn't raining.

We need pics of the Orbea. They make great bikes and that one is no exception. We sold it as a slightly higher priced, but nicer riding alternative to the Allez and aluminum Treks. It's a great bike from one of the oldest bike companies still making bikes.

What do you think about the look? I added lights to back and front, and also a white bottle rack.

That is a beautiful bike! I was deciding between the CAAD 9, the Felt F series and the Orbea Aqua myself. I was leaning towards the Felt because their prices to get in the 105 components were a bit lower, but then my Cannondale dealer made me a pretty good deal on the CAAD9-4 (SRAM Rival/Force) so I spent a little more and got that - well, I don't have it yet, but it's on layaway... You really can't go wrong either way and you scored a fairly uncommon bike that looks terrific. Enjoy the heck out of it.
