A Little Tuesday Morn TT Funride

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A Little Tuesday Morn TT Funride

A few riders meet at GMR (Glendora Mtn Rd) for some Tuesday morning fun. These dudes are fast! GMR gate to the shack in 36 minutes. Few years ago the organized TT was this 8 miles before they cut it to 4'ish miles. The posted times back then from what I read had MOST riders at 39-42 minutes. One year, some dude smoked the field posting 29 minutes. I believe he rode the TDF soon after. So FryDaddy's 36 minutes is pretty darn good. FryDaddy has been inviting riders to join as it's a friendly competiton. Nothing organized, just a show and ride for fun. He's been trying to get more riders involved, different levels and abilities, if anything for motivation to ride. I know FryDaddy (1 of the Bikejournal TopDawgs), Dean in Jeans, and Zach but didn't catch the name of a couple others.

Today was cool. I got to watch the fast guys suffer up the hill. Knowing what it feels like, it's nice to know they suffer too haha! Dean from Irvine showed up but forgot his gear but did have his shoes so he did the ride after traveling so far. FD managed to help him throw together the bare essentials. Thinking the jeans slowed him down a bit, I can't imagine what he'd do in proper gear, he kicked butt in jeans!

Pretty cool watching the riders go back and forth. Riding strong, then fading a bit, then recovering back into fast gear. The guys seem very cool about the friendly race so it was interesting. FryDaddy took the trophy for today's stage but I have a feeling "Dean in Jeans" is on the hunt haha!

First pic: Dean in the jeans, I heard he works with local junior racers. FryDaddy, just some dude that loves to ride his bike. Third in pic Zach, a local racer that claims he often wins the Como St ride held every weekend. (those are his words, not mine. I don't know a thing about that ride). Fourth guy, I didn't get his name and the guy in orange took a bit of a headstart.

Sure looks like some low-riding jeans, too. Musta been wheelsucking for the view...

I have no idea! The organizers stated the desired guidelines but there's always one in the crowd. One of the things that was asked was that if you win by taking a wheel, would it affect the outcome? The guy got dropped at the beginning, by FryDaddy and Dean in the jeans. He took their wheels, got dropped but then came back in the later miles. Only to take Dean's wheel again, then pass him right at the top of a short steep section. Makes you wonder if it affected the outcome as he beat Dean by a second or two. I myself would not have taken a wheel, the others didin't but it was a fun ride so he can't be stopped but I'm sure the others had it in their heads at the end of the ride although they didn't say a thing about it.

I don't think Dean was to worried about it. But I bet he remembers to bring his shorts next time!

One thing that I like about Mr. Beanz' pictures is that the riders almost always have a smile on their faces. I guess it's just human nature. Even if they're dying inside, they dig deep and give him a grin!
