Chain ring too damaged?

Got a crankset off of eBay at a good price. It's new and otherwise fine. Figured I can file smooth the teeth in question but the third tooth from the right is pretty shortened.

I hope this isn't too newbie a question but is the pictured chain ring too damaged to use?

Thanks.

I would use it. Only way to tell is to try it and find out. File off the edges first.

Leave it alone. You do not need to do any filing unless to clean up the edge if it is catching on the chain. You will be fine.

By edges I mean the material which has mushroomed over the sides.

That's great. I'll file/clean off the mushroomed edges as recommended. Thanks, again.
