did i get a different component, or just the wrong decal?
 

Im sorry if this is a really stupid question, but im brand new to cycling, and for my first bike i purchased a '05 Trek 1500...on their website, it says that both the front and rear derailleurs should be Shimano 105s...but my rear derailleur has the Shimano Ultegra decal, (front says 105). Did i get lucky and happen to get a free upgrade? :) or is it just the wrong decal on the rear derailleur. Thanks in advance for any comments, and again, im sorry if this is really silly.

Without seeing it, I'd say you got lucky and they didn't have the right rear dérailleur. The 04 models list the Ultegra for the rear, so if it is in fact an 05, it was probably an early roll out and got specced out like an 04. What color is it?

I think 105 is the same as ultegra no wait thats 600 never mind.

Its an 05 for sure...its the red white and blue team color scheme.

Yep, that's an 05. I think it just get specced as an 04, so you got a slight upgrade. Good deal for you! Congrats on the new ride, now ride the snot out of it! :)

I have heard that a few times, the rear one coming as a Ultegra instead. Good deal.

My guess is that it's an Ultegra derailleur

my wife just bought a 05' 1500 wsd. it came with ultegra on the rear as well. great bike by the way.

Seems like a lot of Trek bikes randomly come with upgraded rear derailleurs. My 1200 came with a 105 rear instead of Tiagra.
