Re-branding another bike to please the sponsors?
Saw this in another forum. A Specialized Crux repainted and rebranded into a Merckx.
Is this a common practice in the pro scene?

It's been going on for quite a while. You don't think the 7-Eleven team was really riding Huffy bikes do you?

Steel is real, baby!
Since pros started having bike sponsors, this was happening.
IIRC, Big Mig's Pinarellos were really Pegorettis. 7-Eleven's Huffys were Serottas. Eddy Merckx rode re-badged De Rosas. And the list goes on, and on,and on, and...

That cross bike is just a rebadged leftover from when Quick Step was sponsored by Specialized. QS doesn't have a real cross team, so they prolly just repainted some stuff they had laying around. Happens often.

I didn't realize that the new Merckx company doesn't have a cross bike in the line-up.

Next thing you'll be telling me that the Murray's that were raced in the mid-80s were not really Murrays.

Not nearly as common as it used to be. In this case, Merckx doesn't even make a cross bike (so far as I know), so a QS rider isn't going to have a CF bike unless he uses something else.

I manage a tennis club and we have gotten hold of several racquets from the pros. As stated above, when you see a pro tennis player on tv, the racquet they are using is a paint job. Andy Roddick, for instance, uses a racquet from 15 years ago, but has it painted modern job. I'm assuming this is the same in cycling. You cant expect an elite athlete to constantly change his equipment each and every year, but the companies want their money, so what better way than to paint it up and hope it sells.

If I remember correctly there were pictures of a ZIPP disc with easton sticker on a website saying this was rebranded cause easton doesn't make full disc wheels.

You are correct. Many have come close to his record, but no one consistently has the serve he does. He uses what is called a Pure Drive racquet, but his is the 2nd generation one, but with the most recent 5th or 6th gen paint job. There was a huge story on Andre Agassi, way back when, where he was using a prince but it was painted as a Donnay, just because they were his sponsor and they want him supporting his product. Im just assuming that the cycling community is probably something like this for the pros, at least?
