No road riding till April
Just got back from the spinal doc and he said I shouldn't ride anything but the trainer until around April.
Does ANYONE have any suggestions for making time on a trainer more tolerable?

Get addicted to a T.V. show.

How important is it to ride on the hoods or in the drops on the trainer? I'm rehab-ing, so I'm really just trying to get some exercise in, but I don't want to do something incorrect. At this point in my rehab, I believe spinning is good enough; someone let me know if I'm incorrect?

if you don't mind my asking, what happened? I'm curious as to how you can ride a trainer and not the road...what's the difference? I also agree with Sufferfest videos...i would get them if i only had a trainer.

Sorry, trying not to beat a dead horse. Had a MTB accident - broke my spine and 7 ribs. Doc said I absolutely can't take the risk of falling right now, but as long as my trainer is stable I can ride it.

Ask your PT for proper guidance.

ah...that makes sense. Heal quickly and if you have the cash, the computrainer idea is a good one as well. I've only heard good things about them

I really like Battlestar Galactica, and Boardwalk Empire is shaping up quite nicely.

I don't mean from a PT perspective - I'm finished with all my PT. I just mean from a form and function for cycling and my habits/bad habits.

Best motivation: a second trainer and someone to ride it beside you. If you aren't that lucky, maybe find a training buddy to track some stats with for some friendly competition.
Get a training program and follow it; I find that having to do some intervals during my trainer rides breaks up the time and makes for a nice distraction, versus slogging along at a constant pace. First you can look forward to finishing each interval, then all the intervals, and before you know it, you're counting down to the end of your workout. My program has different kinds of intervals on different days, too (speedwork, sprints, low cadence strength work, single leg drills, varying intensities), which adds a bit of much-needed variety.
