Shipping Bike from Socal to Maui?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shipping Bike from Socal to Maui?

Anyone have an idea what the cost would be to ship my Giant, rather than taking as oversized luggage on an airplane? I'll be over for two weeks and if the price is right, I'd probably save money over renting.

It is pretty easy to estimate. Find a bike box (I got one from an LBS once) and plug in the dimensions and estimated weight on FedEx.com and you will get a pretty good idea. Then hope it gets to there in one piece and on time.

Have you looked at a map of Maui? You can cover every inch of road in a good day. Ship your scuba gear over, not a bike.

Maybe he was going to try Haleakala. After that ascent, it will take him a day or so to recover.

Been to Maui tons of times. This trip I plan on climbing the mountain and would prefer my own machine. Since I also travel with a surfboard, I'd rather not deal with the airport on this one. But whatever works out best.

I'll be in the Philippines next month for three weeks and its killing me knowing i won't be able to ride for that long. I really wanna ship my bike but the itinerary is jam packed all three weeks.

I hauled my S&S coupled travel bike to Maui last winter mostly to climb Haleakala. I had a great day up the mountain. Otherwise I was a little frustrated biking on Maui because of the traffic. I don't think I would haul a bike there again and I can do it for a $25 bag check fee. I would instead just rent a bike for a 1-2 days.

Hmmm...thanks for the response. Eh, maybe I'll just rent a bike and save the trouble! Darn surfboard will already cost me 100 each way!
