What motivates you to shave your legs for cycling?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What motivates you to shave your legs for cycling?

Following that logic you should only shave one inch of one leg.

I shave because I like the way it feels. And society thinks it's normal for me to shave.

I regularly ride with a small group of guys and two of them don't shave their legs. I find it highly objectionable.

I am calling horse poop on this one, only because I have ridden with PSIMET and Crew in the past. I started doing it so they would stop pulling my leg hairs! That hurts at 20+ MPH. Though, I guess that would qualify for fitting in, as I was the only one with hairy legs and the only one getting that hair pulled in the group.

I think leg shaving is mostly pointless, but I don't care whether others choose to do so or not. It's lame to care about the status of your riding buddies' leg hair.

Leg hair sticking out of knee or leg warmers and that ring of flattened hair sticking out from under your shorts is just weird looking. Smooth, well formed legs are like good lines on a sports car. +1

1. Avoid the mess of dealing with hair when dealing with road rash is nice.
2. I commute to work often so it's nice to wipe down easily
3. I never liked the look of hair poking out through my kit.

It just looks better shaved, i didn't shave the first few months of riding and once my legs started to get more definition to them i shaved. After long rides massages are much easier as well.

I ride with a bunch of guys around my age (59). Some of us have been cycling for years, some (like me) are relatively new to the sport. I can't think of any of us who shave our legs. By the time you get our age, you don't give a rodent's rectum about what others think about such things.

Me, I've got world-class varicose veins. My right calf looks like a relief map of the Andes. I leave the hair on as a public service.

This thread motivated me to shave my legs when I returned from my lunch ride. And now I remember why it's better to do it weekly rather than let it get all Wookieish.

I am a pro: I once won $40 for coming in second in a Cat 4 crit. (I figure if it's enough to strip Jim Thorpe of his Olympic medals, it's enough for me.)
