Jersey fit question

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jersey fit question

I'm looking to buy some jerseys but not exactly sure how to find what I'm looking for. All my riding shirts are the loose t-shirt variety. No elastic on the arms or waist. I want to get some jerseys that are a slimmer fitting (don't flap around), but I don't like the tight elastic bands on the waist. Are there jerseys that fit slim but with a straight waist? Haven't found what I'm looking for at the LBS and it's hard to tell looking on the internet.

Straight waist? You mean that isn't longer in the back to cover up any butt crack?

My look for race/fitted cut vs. club cut.

The elastic waist shouldn't fit too tight, just enough that it keeps the jersey form fitting.

It's not so much a matter of fitting too tight, I just like the look of a longer shirt...something that comes down about mid-butt level instead of looking like your shirt is tucked in. Just a personal thing with me.

By straight waist, I mean not gathered at the bottom like with the elastic waist shirts.

Then try a jersey with the "club cut".

That's kind of what I wear now, but I don't like the waist flapping around...but I don't like short shirts with elastic waist bands.

"something that comes down about mid-butt level instead of looking like your shirt is tucked in."

What makes you think a bike jersey looks like it's tucked into shorts? It doesn't. It extends over the back of the shorts (although, as alluded to here, this doesn't work as well on some body types, in which case, it definitely doesn't look like it's tucked in).

A bike jersey is designed the way it is for a reason - so it doesn't flap around. Buy a jersey, wear the jersey, see what you think.

Or, contact kucharik.com and ask about a custom jersey design that will leave off the bottom elastic.

That's quite a conflict. Maybe hang some weights off the hem of the shirt, or wear a belt around the waist area of the shirt, or just ride topless.

Well, because the elastic band on a short shirt makes it look like it's tucked in. And men wearing spandex shorts with shirts tucked in almost never looks good. Hey, I'm new to the sport and just got over my fear of wearing spandex shorts. Not ready to have my junk hanging out. Just thought that someone surely makes a slim fit jersey that doesn't bunch at the waist, but hangs a little lower.

Right now I'm wearing Target moisture wicking athletic shirts. Pretty much square cut. Very comfortable, but tends to flap in the breeze at the waist. Figured someone makes a similar jersey that is slim fitting but doesn't have an elastic band.

I am the boss at my work. I have about 400 guys who work for me. I try to get a ride in every day at work. I really don't want to be walking around with my junk hanging out in front of them. I like a longer shirt when wearing my riding shorts.

The moment you put a cycling kit all sense of embarrassment should be tossed away; you're a grown man wearing spandex to ride a bicycle so get what's comfortable and forget the rest. Also note that if you wear bib shorts you won't have to worry about anything hanging out or deal with the elastic waistband.

Well, I can't think of any brand that makes it that way except for some mountain bike jerseys - maybe get one of those a size too small to make it "slim", as it will still have the length because mountain bike jerseys are intentionally long to cover your ass when bent over the bars.

My work has about 1600 "clients" aged 11 to 14. If you are confident with yourself, the comments are harmless and eventually fade as they realize you are man enough to do what you want. If you act like the guy with a 4" pecker in the gym locker room, you will get treated as such.

Have you actually tried any of these jerseys on? Because by what you are calling an "elastic waist band" I think you mean the elastic at the bottom of the jersey - this sits around your hips, not your waist. Are you super tall and skinny? Maybe you need a size larger, but in a race cut which is slimmer around the body.

Also, in general, and sadly, the more money you spend on a jersey, the nicer the fit.

Now THAT is definitely in your mind. (I'm beginning to think you're a troll.)

You will look odd wearing something that will be the equivalent of a night shirt, whether you're in front of cyclists or non-cyclists. We're going to want to see pics of you in that costume, so that we can use some of these in response:

If you're relatively thin or muscular, just get a Euro fit / Race fit jersey. If you're a little soft around the middle, club fits are the order. Since you're worried about looks, wearing something else is going to stand out a lot more than wearing what everyone else is wearing.

Now I have to go run a search to see if I can find an old thread where someone said he was in line at a coffee shop mid ride when the little, crotch-high girl in front of him turned around and shouted out "LOOK MOM! I CAN SEE HIS PENIS!" Yeah, that perceptive girl was the 1 out of 100, but the OP was sure embarrassed.

Definately not a troll. Just looking for a decent jersey that covers certain parts. I have been a dedicated gym rat for over 20 years. That guy who always comes in wearing spandex shorts with his shirt tucked in...people make fun of him and women are grossed out. The skin tight racer jersey looks like it's tucked in to me. I don't care for that look. I don't mind wearing cycling shorts, but I'd like to have a bit of a longer shirt that comes down about mid-butt and covers the front a little. That is all. I wear regular atheltic t-shirts right now like Under Armor. I like that length, I just don't like the flapping. The club cut jerseys sounds like what I'm looking for. I don't know why anyone is offended by my desire to not walk around in a body suit.
