Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Great site for "hour hopefuls"

I've been a bit obsessed with the "hour" since I was a Rominger fan.
Anyway, this page has just about every technical detail concerning every successful record attempt:

https://www.bikecult.com/bikecultbook...cordsHour.html

I know Boardman is only 5 foot 9, and Rominger is about 5 foot 8, but in light of all this crank length talk, it's interesting that the four best efforts were done using 170mm and 172.5mm cranks.

Indurains effort wasn't quite as good, and he was on the 190s. Dunno what this means -- I just love crapping on about it

and note that Rominger's Colnago was a steel bike!!
