Bike Grease Clean-Up

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bike Grease Clean-Up

FYI, when you get all dirty with grease & grime, a good way to clean up is by pouring some vegetable oil on your hands, working all the gunk loose, then washing with regular soap. No nasty solvents or harsh stuff required. Works for oil based paint too.

thanks for that. I usually spray a bit of wd40 or something on them to cut the grease but will see if vegetable oil works as well.

I like this stuff. I don't care if it's bad for me, it smells like orange creamsicles. Vegetable oil sounds cheaper though.

My grandmother always recommended baby oil.

Personally, I use WD-40. Not a good bike lube, but it's a great cleaner and grease-cutter.

I'm going to try cooking with it and use the veg oil (I use olive oil exclusively) for bike cleanup. Like to switch things around, especially this time of the year.

Thanks BF!

Gets the grease but drys my hands out. Not good in the winter when the air is already cold and dry.

Try the vegetable oil first, then finish with detergent.

Vegetable oil works great on chain tatoos too. Just rub in with your finger and wipe off with a paper towel.
