Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

i hope this is the right forum, thinking on trading my bike... enter and help me :D

hey, im new here, my name is juan and im from texas, anyways, i always been a downhill guy, but because of the twisted turns of life, i ended up in galveston, a flat island where the biggest hill might just be 3 feet, anyways, no more downhill for me, so the next best thing i could find was road biking, so with not too much money i managed to score a trek 1000 for 200 dollars, is kinda old but a good bike over all, i mean entry level, stuff like shimano sora, bontrager, xero lite wheels, anyways, i think i got it for a fair price at 200 dollars, anyways, now a friend of mine has a 2007 trek 1000 discovery channel edition bike, other than the frame and for the fork the bike is not stock, components are a mixture of fsa gossamer cranks, tiagra shifters, sora derailleurs, rolf vector wheels, ritchey seatpost, and im not sure what else, and he told me he would do my trek 1000 plus a 100 bucks for his bike... is that a good deal?

thanks for your help guys

Welcome to the board. Now you have 3 comments telling you to make the trade.

What it's worth depends on it's condition.
Either way, it's well worth the trade if they are in comparable condition.
The shifters, wheels & post alone are worth the extra $100.

Of course, ride it and make sure it fits and that everything works and check
the frame for cracks and the rear stays to make sure their aligned right.

It's a good deal if you ask me. Just make sure the bike fits you or you will not be happy later on.

well i see that the rolf wheesl go on ebay for 120+ and the cranks that are new by the way,go for like 120 also, so it seems like a good deal just there, now, the bike condition is pretty good overall, the frame has some scratches, and i think the shifters too, not too bad i think, the size is perfect for me, even more my trek 1000 is a size bigger so this bike would be perfect for me, now, based on this info, what would be worth, just approximately?

Check craigslist in your local area to get an idea of what they are going for there.
In New York, they generally go for $300. - $400. (in good condition).

Well Juan, I guess you've answered your own question.
Go pick up that bike before you buddy gets smart!

Then, you'll have to post pictures of it here!
