Cycling shoes for wide midfoot

I have flat flat pancake feet. Associated with this is a wide midfoot

I currently wear some pearl izumi MTB shoes but after 5 or 6 miles, there is pain along the lateral side of my feet, right around the head of the 5th metatarsal. Not plantar fasciitis from flat feet, but pain from the shoe squeezing the foot (sorry for med terms, I'm a family physician)

I've tried numerous shoes at LBS but all they had was specialized and shimano. All hurt around the same area, with and without insoles. I've tried loosening the laces, no improvement

Any help? What else should I try?

(PS, I also had this issue with my hockey skates and it was never resolved, ie every skate I have worn over the past 10 years have always given me some amount of pain)

Expensive possibility: a pair of Sidis - they make a wide version of some of at least some of their models.

i have wide feet

try Sidi megas or lakes. My lakes are not wide edition but they come pretty wide regularly

I have flat, wide, and long (47) feet. I tried PI shoes, and it was like putting my foot in a vise, as you've discovered. Lake fits me best, and I'm using CX330c's right now. Sidi Megas I found to be too wide, but my old, normal-width Sidi Lightnings fit quite well, as the material of the upper is softer than most brands, so there is some give for comfort. I've heard that Northwave shoes run a bit wider than most, so they may be worth trying. I have a pair of Diadora Ergo Carbons that are fairly wide, but these should definitely be tried before bought as they have a very stiff upper that doesn't mold to the foot over time. These are my winter weather shoes, since they're very durable, and easily cleaned. I believe Cannondale rebrands Diadora shoes, as well. Good luck with your search.

What size are you? See my signature.

Lake and Sidi make specific wide versions. I'm told Lakes are wider than Sidis, but they feel the same to me.
