Campagnolo triple crank arm replacement suggestions
 

I have a Campagnolo triple crankset and am trying to find replacement crank arms sized at 165mm. Everything except the cranks are useable, and I would prefer not to have to purchase new chainrings/bottom bracket/front derailleur unnecessarily, so does anyone here know of any other products that might suffice? Since Campagnolo has their own bolt hole diameter of 135mm for the larger two rings and does not currently make a 165mm crank I haven't had any luck finding a suitable replacement on my own.

It makes a difference what year and model of triple crank you have, since not all models use the same BB spindle length. The lower levels use a 111 or 115.5mm, depending on the size of seat tube on your bike. Record and Chorus use a 111mm asymetrical spindle.

Unless you can find a used crank, there is no substitute that I know of. What happened to the crank arms?

An alternate solution would be to just buy a low level Shimano or FSA triple crank, which would have outboard bearings.

The crank selection does not affect your FD.

I assume that you're certain that the 165mm crankarms are a must have, due to short legs?

shimano road triples are cheapish, but readily available.
a tiagra, or R553 would fit the bill.

okay, they're not pretty, but they are excellent work horses.

I bought a nice used bike (2000 Heron Road) with a Campagnolo Veloce groupset, but with Campagnolo Comp triple cranks for some reason, sized at 175mm. I usually get knee pain when I ride with cranks that long (even a 170mm) and wanted to change them out for some 165mm cranks but was surprised when I couldn't find anything from Campagnolo or another manufacturer in that size. I guess they just except all us shorter cyclists to ride wearing platform shoes.

Since Campagnolo uses a proprietary chainring bolt hole diameter of 135mm as opposed to the more readily available 130mm I don't think most other cranks out there will fit. I would prefer not to have to ditch a perfectly useable bottom bracket and chainrings (and possibly also the front derailleur), but maybe that is what Campagnolo was planning for all along. The joke's on them though as I'll just switch over to Shimano if they don't have anything that fits me.

I know the bottom bracket length and the spindle size is also a consideration, but if there is just nothing out there for me anyway I don't want to bother getting into those details.

As was mentioned above in post 2, FD shouldn't have to change even if you have to swap to Shimano bb and crankset.

There aren't many 165mm options available, but as mentioned above, you should be able to get a Shimano model in that size, and they are very decent cranks and chainrings, and should work fine with your Campy drivetrain.
