Kudos to Quarq
I decided to change the crankset that my Cinqo is on, and have the unit re-calibrated. I also needed to pickup a new magnet/BB mounting kit for a bike I'm building. I had the new crankset drop shipped to Quarq, and sent my current crank/Cinqo to them. It arrived on a Thursday, they swapped the crank out, remounted the rings I sent, calibrated the unit, and got everything back to me the following Thursday (South Dakota to Indiana).
And the whole shooting match cost $10, which is what they charged me for shipping. The didn't even charge me for the magnet/mount, and threw in a water bottle to boot! I know there is at times a lot of company bashing on the forum, but this is pretty much indicative of every interaction I've had with Kai, Mieke, and everyone at Quarq. There are a lot of great power meters out there, but if you are looking, definitely check out their units. Their customer service is unbelievable. |

I'm in the market fort a quarq but trying to decide if I'll upgrade my bike first or not... it would kindda suck if I bought a quarq upgraded and had to buy a brand new quarq |
If I'm following, you shouldn't have a problem if you purchase a Quarq, and later upgrade your bike...assuming that the crankset you go with for the quarq makes a compatible bottom bracket to the frame. There may be a few instances where that might be an issue, but for the most part you should be fine, especially if you are looking for something Shimano compatible. The Rotor 3D is Shimano compatible and looks schweet!

+1 - Companies in this industry set themselves apart with service and the team at Quarq has really done an amazing job with it. I have had nothing but primo service and product that performs great. Can't say enough good things.

I intend to swap rings sometime next year so I'll need to send the crank to them, unless they release the iPhone app first. It's good to hear they know customer service. I can say the got me my new S975 in 2 weeks contrary to their warning that it could be 4-6. Great job!

if I might just ask, are you swapping your crank back and forth between bikes? I'd have to imagine this is a bit of a hassle, no? (I only ask as I'm in the debating stage over a powermeter, and plan on doing most of my interval training on my commuter, but want to have power on both bikes, so I've been leaning more powertap than crank based)

My experience with Quarq CS lines up very well with the OP and Psimet's experiences. They're a top notch company.
As for the swapping cranks between bikes, it only takes a few minutes more than swapping wheels. Really, it's not a big deal. |
I swap mine between TT and the supersix. It's BB30 so there's just the main bolt and a plastic retainer ring that's very easy to setup. Helps to have a torque wrench that can go up to 48-54nM. I got one at Home Depot that does 20-100 ft lbs and they have a hex set for 3/8" drive that has the 10mm you'll need. Swapping takes just a few minutes.

then what do I do with the two Force cranksets I have... (answer: sell one and put the money toward some nicer wheels, probably...)

+1 to all the kudos. Mieke & Kai have been great to deal with. When I needed to send mine in for a firmware update, they took care of shipping for me (both ways) and I got it back exactly one week later. They also threw in a new sensor holder thing (I had the epoxy stuff previously), water bottle, t-shirt and extra magnets.

+1 to service and product. Mieke responded to pre-purchase emails on a Sunday night. Had the meter in hand two days later.
