No flats so far... 532 miles!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sigh. Over the last two weekends Ive gone through 2 brand new Conti GP4000s tires on the rear due to road debris tearing out chunks of the sidewall. Bad luck for sure, but I'll take a little bad luck in the tire department if that's the worst of it.

To answer the OPs question, rear tire flats are more prevalent than front flats.

Hmm seems im not as lucky as i thought.

I weigh 200 lbs and keep the rear at about 125psi. Im ocd about maintaining pressure and if im on a ride and pass a bike shop i will buy a bar or something and have then double check the pressure.

Maybe its the ****ty contis and the garbage forte tubes ive been using...

That is great. I went 8 miles and got a flat with my Schwalbe Utremo R.1 tire, rear just blew out, tube, destroyed. Never buying that garbage again...the customer support was all, sorry, take it to a bike shop and let them examine it. I don't need some dude at the bike shop to tell me your tires are garbage and worse than chinese made.

You have been fortunate.

Got myself a Conti Gator now...that won't happen anytime soon again. Fingers crossed.

Ha me too. I think the last time I got a flat was over a year ago. Mostly from mucking around on birms around a corn fields one evening, pulled out 20 or so goat heads when I got home, only 1 got through in the rear. I love that bike...

Are you sure you didn't pinch the tube when you installed the tire?

I learned that mistake 20 years ago. Thanks to a review in Bicycling magazine I bought some racing tires with a thin layer of rubber that they claimed would be flat resistant due to the high thread count and flatted the same day and the next several days from punctures. Switched to heavier kevlar belted tires and never touched a racing tire again.

What do you expect them to do, replace every tire for every customer who ever gets a flat? There are so many possibilities for user error here. I don't see how you can blame Schwalbe until you prove it was a manufacturer's error. And if you did prove that, how do you know they wouldn't have replaced the tire for you or refunded your money?

I have a set of Schwalbe Duranos and I'm somewhere near 3,000 miles without a flat. The rear is starting to flatten out a little, but I expect plenty more trouble-free miles out of it.

I had to replace two tubes today, flatted both tires before I even got on the trainer. My piece of crap back up pump (the one I keep inside the house for trainer duty) managed to break the little stems inside the valve stem out of both tubes. Ughhh.

I lowered the pressure on our tandem's 28mm Conti GP 4 Seasons and the flat gods have been smiling, but I think it's more like dumb luck. I never use the "f" word in ordinary conversation and I've omitted my signature from this post just in case.

yes.

My tyre has way more than 532 miles (more like 5000) and I need to change it or I will get a flat. I'm riding on threads.
