Who says the Roubaix can't get low?
And who says it's pointless to make some efforts to get some saddle-to-bar drop on one? After all, aerodynamics of the body trump weight and stiffness in performance by a huge margin. Why not get aero and enjoy a little ride compliance?

How often do you have to ask the person in front of you to tell you what is on your computer?

If you can't get a bike with a shorter head tube then use what works, but otherwise I'd get something else because that looks pretty silly.

I know I've said it before. I've complained about the longer head tube on many newer frames. However, I didn't realize an integrated head tube is the same as a non-integrated one about 20mm shorter.

I was thinking the same thing. Don't these bike manufacturers design the geometry with the entire bicycle in mind? For example, if the head tube is taller and the wheelbase is longer, wouldn't they design the rest of the bike geometry to compliment these changes so that the bike still handles appropriately? Seems like if you do something stupid like what the OP did to this Roubaix it would negatively affect the handling characteristics overall. You might add some "aero," but you are probably screwing yourself equally with body position and efficiency when you aren't riding the bike how it was engineered to ride.
If you want aero, go buy a Cervelo S.

A few people advised me not to use a stem with such an angle because of its adverse affect on handling. This hypothetical danger hasn't amounted to anything. The handling and stability are excellent. Because this bike has a longer wheelbase, its ability to rotate in small radius situations has never been impressive. But the changes made from stock have done nothing to hinder its road holding and tendency to inspire confidence in handling it on the limit. Apparently theory doesn't always add up in real life testing.

it's also about the wheelbase, for which longer means a larger turning radius
on a tarmac, a size 54 gets you a headtube of 14.5cm and wheelbase of 97.8cm
on a roubaix, a size 52 gets you a headtube of 14.5cm and wheelbase of 98.9cm.
In other words, you've gone down a size (top tube got shorter), yet the bike is still not as nimble.

Kinda reminds me of those guys who buy 4x4 trucks and then have them lowered to the ground. Why dont you just get a tarmac instead?

My Roubaix has the OEM stem set up for max elevation of the bars. I figure if I wanted to ride like that, I would have bought a Tarmac.

Please post pics of you on this thing. I suppose if you're comfy that's the best part but I imagine that isn't going to get you much more aero than just bending your elbows a bit.
