Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Merry Christmas to me...new wheels!

I know they aren't fancy, $150 Forte Titans from Performance Bike, but I really like the way they look. Going for a whole blacked-out thing. New to biking and this was my first maintenance effort. Only blew out one tube (forgot to put the tape thing on the inside of the rim...pumped it up and at 100psi, pop! Foooooooosh.). Luckily I had a spare tube. Anyway, it all worked out. Took it out for 25 miles and they rode great.

I did the same thing on my newest wheelset, was excited and completely forgot the rim strip. Felt like an idiot but it's just one of those things. Anyway, congrats on the new wheels. They look good on there.

The Brooks was the other part of my Christmas present. Once I got it adjusted properly, I can hardly tell it's there. The first two rides were pretty painful, but the third (today) was like magic. So comfortable.

"pop" sounds like an understatement. When I blew mine out it sounded more like a shotgun. but then again, mine blew out the side because the bead wasn't set. Lesson learned.

My wife would beat my ass if I spent $1000 on wheels...especially on a bike that only cost $399 new.
